I was scattering bulls on June 9th. I took a new bull to a pasture he had never been to. He worked my pony pretty good. He always wanted to turn back and return to the other bulls. For 3 miles we did this. Next year he will probably line out and travel in a straight line, knowing where he is going, and what he will be doing. What he lacked was a sense of direction and purpose. Many people live their lives that way. The bible character, Lot was such a man (Gen 19). It is evident that Lot was financially successful. He was also saved. Peter calls him righteous. What a sad legacy he left. His decisions, when finally forced to make them were selfish, based on what is easy, comfortable and profitable. His testimony, when he finally tried to have one, seemed like a joke to his son-in-laws. His wife became useless because she was torn between prosperity and Godliness. His offspring, a result of incestuous relations with his daughters, became immoral and evil nations (Moabites and the Ammonites). They originated Baal worship. They were a source of entanglement for Gods people throughout history. His life, although he was saved and he was troubled at the evil about him, was a detriment to God's people. By contrast John the Baptist lived a life far from luxurious, and had nothing of material value. All he had was a voice that was heard throughout the nation. He knew who he was and what he was here for (John 1:19-26). Yet Jesus says of him there has been none any greater. If you are saved great! But what is your life counting for? You must ask yourself if your legacy will amount to anything for what really matters for eternity. You must have purpose and direction in life beyond enjoying what life hands you. Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin' and a good rest of the week!
