We went to see our daughter play in a Christmas production in the Denver area on Friday. On the way home, I went around Robin Hood's barn. The moon was full, and snow covered the rolling, timbered hills of the Bijou Basin. It was a pretty drive. A long drive with plenty of time for reflections. The night was pretty, but really like many other nights. Then, I heard the song sung, "O Holy Night." The thing that sat that night apart from any other, before or since, was Christ's birth. It is a struggle to keep the night Holy and non-commercialized, isn't it. I guess Christ is what made it Holy to begin with, and it is up to us to keep Him as the central focus to make the night Holy, or set apart for His purposes. Just a couple of weeks away, now……….better get ready! The way to be ready is to focus on Him for the next two weeks. Have a good Sunday mornin' and God Bless.

This rendition, by the Barra McNeils of our Canadian, east coast fame, never fails to send chills up and down my spine! Our family had the good fortune to hear them perform it live in our home town several years ago. Lucy's perfect voice and presentation held the audience spellbound while she sang. When she finished there was actually a few seconds of breathless silence before the place exploded with extended applause and appreciation.

Thank you for stirring the memory of a rare performance of a powerful song Shortgrass.

Thanks for the wake up call of a beautiful night vision, Shortgrass. The last couple nights have sure been pretty with the full moon shining over the hills, with nary a cloud for competition. Burnt, that is a fantastic version of the song "O Holy Night," sung by the Barra McNeils. Thanks for posting the link. God's masterpieces are mighty indeed.

Here is another rendition performed by a young man who talents are greater than his handicaps of being both blind and autistic -

Shortgrass, not to commandeer your thread, but ever since you posted this one, the significance of this song has "ruminating" within me and how how we are so blessed by both this music and by the message - Christ the Savior is born - God became man!

"O Holy Night Lyrics

The words and lyrics of the old carol 'O Holy Night' were written by Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure in 1847. Cappeau was a wine seller by trade but was asked by the parish priest to write a poem for Christmas. He obliged and wrote the beautiful words of the hymn. He then realised that it should have music to accompany the words and he approached his friend Adolphe Charles Adams(1803-1856).

He agreed and the music for the poem was therefore composed by Adolphe Charles Adams. Adolphe had attended the Paris conservatoire and forged a brilliant career as a composer. It was translated into English by John Sullivan Dwight (1812-1893)."

O Holy Night

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim
