I'll pass on both. :? Sorry, but Program has 1680 and Net Worth has 598. Both have YW over 100 and Milk in the mid or high 20's. That makes large framed cows if your keeping heifers. Program looks to be a better heifer bull between the two.

I have seen Program daughters at Hinmans. Excellent uddered females. Maybe a tad bigger framed but not bad. AI'd some to Program last year, haven't had any calves yet. I do know the family. Outstanding people and family.

I agree Lean'H-- both are a little too high octane for my program..
And I agree with Horseless-- the Hinmans/Luloffs are great people..

Like everything, it depends on your goals. Net Worth is extremely thick and he passes it on to his progeny. Amazingly thick, really. I don't know about the replacement females that he might make. Scares me a little from that standpoint since his BW number is fairly high and calving ease direct is very low at only a 1. Terminal calves would have to be awfully good. Powerful bull, though, no doubt. And a respectable marbling EPD for those feeding cattle and hanging them on the rail.

Program, on the other hand, seems to have the balance that I look for in both making females and feeder calves. Unique mix of carcass genetics and maternal genetics in his pedigree. Very reasonable calving ease but still growthy cattle. We hung it out there and bred a decent number of cows to him last spring and we'll likely do it again this spring since we won't know any better at A.I. time. I'm fairly excited about the bull. Feeding out the progeny of these kind of cattle can change the way a person looks at the situation, which would be the angle that we're coming from. Program is a good calculated risk for us.

I can see how the lower input range guys that strictly sell weaned calves may not prefer either one of them to make replacements. So, it sure depends on your goals and what works for your situation. Pretty much always depends, right? Ask again in 6 or 7 months.

598 is a CA carrier and 1680 carrys AM & NH. While I could breed all my cows to both bulls for my lifetime and not get a calf with the genetic defects both bulls carry, I choose not to. Not sayin' everyone else has to do what I do. It's just a management choice on my outfit. I research to my best ability, how a bull is bred in his pedigree. If either bull shows up, I keep lookin'.

And?

Both bulls have tested free for am/nh/ca genetic defects.

if i had to pick one of the two, i'd probaby go with Program because of the calving ease. i could be wrong but i think those HA cattle can get quite a bit of leg under them. from the looks of some Image Maker daughters i've seen, looks like a person would have to be at least 6 ft. tall to see over their backs. heck, NR could milk them without bending over. :D

That's worth everything. The two bulls are clean, regardless of their ancestors. :D

I know both the bulls we are discussing are clean. But they both have unclean bulls pretty close upstream. I choose not to drink that water. My choice. Ya'll do what you'd like when choosing bulls. I just decided awhile ago that I don't want the genetics that come from 1680 or 598. :D
