All of our local hay is heading down towards Tennesse and points south and east.. I caled around and found some large square can hay but it was 168 dollars a ton and I just couldn't justify that.. Called antoher guy and he is bringing some in at 110 a ton which is still a bit much but we need it for the critters that are getting it.. I think when I bought small squaes locally he charged me about 140 a so a ton which is better than what he is selling to other folks further away because 1) I am loading myselft and 2) He is one of my equipment dealers..
I'm just glad the stalk density was good this year in the fields so we were able to put up the 1100 5X6 bales of stalks for the cow herd.
I just bought 70 bales of grass/clover mix for $40 per bale they weigh 1400#s average.
Our local ethanol plant had a malfuction over the weekend so we got 20 semi loads of the wet distillars grain in.That cost us $15 per ton.I have 2 semi loads of corn screenings coming also at $98 per ton delivered..Were sitting pretty well on feed now but a week ago things looked grim.I am going to try and get 20 more loads of the wet cake.If I do I will be getting about 80 to a 100 light calves 3 to 400#s.
 OK stop it you guys yer making me sick.... Alfalfa here is 17.50 for a 3 stringer so about 110 pounds..... Local is 7.00 per bale at 45 pounds...
THat is pretty rough Judith.. I think the small squares I got a 3.50 were 60 pounds...I think you need to move... Of course, this wasn't fancy, shamancy race pony feed.
Local is just the first cut stuff nothing fancy schmancy.. I'm not sure I would want to eat it looks kinda icky but the horses like it. It does smell great thats for sure!
