friends near the storms took a pretty good hit. we were no where near the bad area we are 3 hours straight north of Wichita, near the Nebraska border.
this summer has been a real challenge, insurance coverage is about $15,000 short of the damages on the house. and the storms took the gutters, so all the rain has softened the foundation, and now a basement wall is caving in!!! another $10,000 to fix that this winter ! the alfalfa we lost to the storm was to go against a lot of operating expences and that shortened me by about $20,000....I pulled the cattle 45 days sooner than normal cause the pastures never recovered from the hailstorm either, so the feed bill this winter will be a bit more than normal...
harvest is a couple weeks away, the prices are good, but the yeilds just don't sound to promising..... I pray it all works out. if not, we re adjust, and go after it full bore next year. all summer has been a peter / paul affair, trying to bounce around a few bucks to keep the wolves away, the added stress has been tough, but what don't kill us, makes us stronger!
I look at my situation and I can get all sad and miserable, but then I look around at others, and then I realize, I ain't got it too bad...we are all healthy, and we have each other... we will survive...no idea how, but we will
