In all your years of ranching how many cows have you had to cull for not enough milk-I don't mean culled for not having the biggest calf-I mean for raising a calf that you can't make money on. I was just thinking-dangerous thing for me to do-that we've had maybe 5-6 over the years that just couldn't raise a thrifty calf-that compares to the 50-60 at least over the years that blew their udder out or came up dry because they milked off their back. People talk all the time about culling cows because they raised a calf below average for herd weaning weight-wouldn't being below herd average for $ received be a better benchmark. Lots of time a calf a bit greener dollars out the same. I'm just trying to get my head around why there are Angus bulls that are plus 30 for milk and how you would utilize one. I found a bull to flush my old pb cow to but he's plus 26-the breeder says the daughters are real easy fleshing-I think a roadtrip to NW Montana is in order.
