how are things around the country

We had 1.3 last night; hoping we get that amount tonight again. Was a
real light show last night. All the lightening and thunder should help too.
Maybe we'll get a hay crop this year. :D Forecast is calling for good chance for rain til June 8th. We'll take all we can get. Glad everyone is getting some moisture.

I just pulled this off of a friends post on Facebook. They live near Gillette:

"Middle Prong - which is a dry creek bed - is running approximately 20 feet across and at least three feet deep in places. Seven foot banks of golf ball size hail and smaller. Over four inches of rain in an hour and a half."

Conditions are going from bad to worse across Iowa. Heavy rain and severe weather is expected most of the week.

I am thankful that I don't have to deal with the weather extremes that many of you have to live with. I have lived on the coast for nearly 60 years and frequently complain that "it rains all the time." Though this is a fact, we rarely get the gully-washers or never get multi-foot drifts of hailstones. We can go weeks without sunshine that causes seasonally affected disorder but I know that this can't possibly compare with a year with no rainfall or worse, getting a year's worth of rainfall in a short period of time.
On a lighter note, I lease out the corrals on my ranch property to several ranchers and one of the stipulations is that they maintain the fencing. In April I told the main lessee that someone had hit a 6-foot section of fencing between the corrals and the cattle guard on the county road and laid the boards in a neat pile. Yesterday I received an email from my neighbor across the road that a semi-trailer load of cattle unloaded earlier in the day and within an hour there were cows walking down the road. So much for maintaining the fencing.

We picked up another .3 last night in a thunderstorm to give us a total of 1.3 for the weekend... :D
And it sounds like this part of the country could pick up a couple of more inches later in the week:

We had a nice 3/4 of an inch last night. Even had a few puddles around the yard this morning. We will gladly take any that comes our way. :D

I feel bad for those with flooding. It makes a mess and could be used better in other places. :?

Maybe this week will be our turn. Looks to be a better start to the season for most of ranching country compared to last year. :D

Dry here. We moved the cows saturday out of a pasture we should get 6 weeks in. Moved them after 18 days. Windy and hot. More of the same ahead. We have grass but sure could use some moisture. Glad to hear some of ya'll are getting it! :D

While I'm not "in the country" :D , it looks like we're making the change between summer and winter here. Winter is our rainy season and I'm ready for the change to wetter weather.

I've got a number of pieces plowed and ready to plant grain sorghum....would be planting today except there's no seed to be found, ANYWHERE! Same with corn. Revolution!

We got several good rainfalls at the end of April that kick-started my bermuda. It was just beginning to suffer from lack of water again here a week ago but I believe the water we're getting now should get it to the point where I can begin baling soon.

Wasn't able to complete all my "summer time" projects but got most of them done.

I'm sure in 6 months I'll be ready for summer again. :D

We had another great rain last night, and it looks like most of western SD and western ND got it as well. We ended up with 1.4 inches, at the ranch, which now puts us over 6 inches in the last 13 days! Yesterday I spoke to Claymore Ranch, who is next door neighbors to our lease near Mobridge, he told me he has gotten nearly 6 1/2 inches and then he got this one on top of it. What a blessing, the dams are filling back up, the ground is finally getting what it has been needing for a couple years, and the grass and hay will be tremendous! Looks like we should have more the next few nights as well! We hope the rains are widespread where it is needed!

I would say pretty much so. Their might still be some who were a pasture or 2 short to get by. But it has slowed it down anyway. If nothing else, to muddy to get trucks into a lot of the places. :)

The 6 1/2 inches we have had the last couple weeks is pretty amazing, since our normal annual precip is around 16 inches for the year, snow included!

We got another 2 inches of rain last night. Heard some hail hit the roof, but haven't found any damage yet. Wind blew something fierce, and lighting popped close.
We have had right at 7 inches of rain in 2 weeks. Considering we "normally" get 15 or so, in a full year. We are looking mighty fine right now

We're up to over 2 inches since Saturday night- steady rain still with predictions of an inch or more before it quits Friday night... Reports of some areas in the Big Sheep's and down toward Terry of 4+ inches...

You can almost watch the grass growing..

Most the state east of the Divide is under flood watches or warnings...Milk River is predicted to be above flood stage by Saturday- which will make for a muddy and interesting Milk River Catfish Classic fishing contest which is Sat. afternoon/night...
