And expecting more tomorrow...Now have to figure out how to blow it north to ya, I could use a new saddle. Hmm...need to go talk to the Injuns over here on the reservation and see if they might have any ideas. LOL...I will concentrate reallll harddd and see if that will work. Now remember if you get the rains it was meee that sent it...ok? lol...

Have a GREAT FATHERS DAY JB!!!

Easty

Thak you all, for the kind comments.

As for Fathers day. Me and the missus have a date in Deadwood. They have free street concerts starting at 4 pm, so we got a room. We'll listen to Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the rest and then not have to drive home. Sounds like a fun time to me. :D

That sounds like a lot of fun, Jinglebob!!!
We'll be thinking of you...wishin we were there!

What other bands do they have?

On that subject, I want to get Red Steagalls song, "Rider on the Rim" but
I haven't been able to find which album it is on. Do you happen to know? Have you ever heard that song?

Here are the words. The letters are the key he played the song in.

(A) On the wagon last october was a (D) kid of seven (A) teen
A city kid from Dallas, wet behind the ears and (E) green
He (A) stepped out of the pages of a (D) western cata (A) log
and not the kind you'd pick to ride the (E) rivers and the (A) boggs

(D) The boss had throwed this kid and me together for the drive
(A) We took the outside circle, I was mad and full of (E) fight
(D) For it ain't no place for tender feet, cause where we had to go
(A) Up in the hills and badlands where the twisted cedars (E) grow

The (A) kid had drawed a snaky bronc, plum (D) full of dirty (A) tricks
And I'll give the kid his credit boys he stayed and took his (E) licks
Cause (A) everytime he got throwed off, (D) he'd step back on (A) again
And we wondered how much practicin this city (E) boy could (A) stand

(D) At the head of an arroyo where the tamarac grow tall
(A) I sent the kid a driftin north, to ride out Deadmans (E) draw
(D) The country's pretty open and the draw ain't very deep
(A) So I took Blackhole canyon, where the bluffs are high and (E) steep

It was (A) misty in the canyon, (A7) the light was sorta dim
(D) Thru the mist I saw a ghostly rider on the rim
(E) He waved his hat and motioned to go back the way I come
(D) And when the mist had cleared away the ghostly form was (A) gone

(A) I turned my horse around, headed (D) back to Deadmans (A) draw
I knowed the kids in trouble I could feel it in my (E) crawl
From (A) the trail of broken cedars and the (D) deep tracks in the (A) sand
The gray was usin all his tricks the (E) kid had made a (A) hand

(D) But up beneath a cutbank where the trail is slick and steep
(A) The gray lay thrashin on his side the kid lay (E) underneath
(D) His foot run thru the stirrup, holdin to the horses head
(A) He knew that if the gray got up he'd soon be drug to (E) death

The (A) kid was tired and gettin weak, the (D) horse was gainin (A) ground
I slipped my gutline round his neck, the kid got turned (E) around
So's (A) he was in the saddle when the (D) horse got to his (A) feet
Then we rode out together but we (E) didn't hardly (A) speak

(D) A dozen times I've ridden out along the canyon rim
(A) There ain't no tracks and I ain't seen that ghostly form (E) again
(D) And I don't really care if you believe a word I say
(A) A cowboy guardian angel helped me save the kid that (E) day

It was (A) misty in the canyon, (A7) the light was kinda dim
(D) Thru the mist I saw a ghostly rider on the rim
(E) If I live to be a hundred I will not forget the day
(D) A cowboy guardian angel taught two punchers how to (A)
pray..............
(Slowing) How to pray......... How to (E) pray............... (A)

Never heard that one before. I never remember to listen to Red's radio show. He's just a ittle too proud of Texas, for my taste. I'm sure there are wonderful cowboys and people in Texas, and i saw som good country when we drove thru' a few yeas ago. But I don't believe you got to be from Texas tyo be a good cowby, rancher or person. I thik you can be from anywhere and fit one or all of those catagories. Sorry East, Lilly and Haymaker. I like all of the Texans I've met, but I don't think they are better than anyone else. Red kind'a acts like they are.

And Red writes and sings some great songs and poetry.

He's kind of got a chip on is shoulder about being from Texas, like a lot of cowboys from east of the river do about being from east of the river. Too many idiots have told them they can't be a hand if they weren't born/raised west of the river. Sorry, but there are lots of good cowboys who were raised away from cows. Them cotton field and corn fields made lots of good hands!

And there have been alot raised on a ranch who ain't good hands.

JMHO

OK, let the fireworks begin.

Gotta go and pull quills on a steers face. Evidently he'd never seen a porkipine before. We'll give him a big dose of nylon and pull them out, and he'll be a wiser fellow afterwards.

Guess I hadn't thought about Red Steagull as being too proud of Texas.
I just take his songs for what they are, great WESTERN music.
I like his words and melodies, so guess I'll keep listening to his songs.
I feel some emotion when I hear his music. I usually sit up and listen
because his songs are different than most. Not that he is the only one
singing this type of song, but there aren't too many.

I also like Don Edwards, Dan Roberts, Wylie and the Wild West Show;
that kind of music. Soapweed recommended a CD to us that has become Mr. FH's very favorite. It is a Kyle Evans album with some songs by
Martin Robbins (that's what it says~I'd never heard Marty Robbins called Martin before. There is probably a story there.)

And Mr. FH lost my CD "The Mavericks, Live at Austin". Now that is
currently MY favorite. Or was, before he lost it. Darn, I should have
got ME one for Father's Day.

BTW, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL YOU GREAT DADS!!

Anyone can be a father, it takes a man to be a dad.

your absolutely right Jinglebob, ya aint gotta be from Texas to be a good cowboy.
I don't know where the "Pride in our State" thing started or when, Probably way back yonder ....Remember the Alamo....but every one from every other state has just as much to be proud of in their state as anyone else. I sometimes think since its such a big state, and has sooo many people...maybe it's just because there's more of us bein proud of our state that makes it seem like it's over done. LOL It has alot to offer, Mountains, Desert, Plains, Rolling Hill Country, Deep woods of east Texas, and Beaches....we have a lil bit of everything here.

Emily Erwin Robinson, was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts - her sister Martie was born in Dallas. Natalie was born in Lubbock Texas.....and didn't at all follow in her dads and uncles paths. My brothers went to school with the Maines Brothers, they had an awesome band back in their day and had 4 albums that are still some of my favorite music......
But, I can live without the Dixie Chicks. Ewwwwww

Did you get my pm?

No Jinglebob, I didn't send it again!!

There was a ranch roping this past weekend in Sundance. Next time, I'll just post it on here. :x

I don't know who I'm stealing this from but its true: Texas is a great place except for a certain little 40 acres in Austin.

Shame about that leather you wasted JB. I might have to take it off your hands. Seriously, that a nice wood - good effort.
