Monday at about 3 in the morning we lost power. got it back on today (wed. afternoon) for a couple hours then off again for a few, now back on...hopefully for good!

about a 1/2 inch of ice on everything, bad bad deal. trees popped, fences took a beating, cows look good, but I really wonder how they take this weather ....

spent lastnight in a hotel in town, was just too cold to stay home. but I did get plenty of "quality time" with the family.....

I wonder how the pioneers made it. getting dark at 5 and not getting tired till 10 absolutely SUCKS with no power!!

Mrs Jigs is getting a generator for Christmas!!!!

Been thru one of those ice storms. 4 days without power, 16 degrees.....ice on everything, and cows calving. Cooked on a wood stove, all of us slept in one room where that wood stove was at. That was 15 years or so ago and I still haven't gotten a generator...for Christmas or otherwise. Jigs...you and Mr Lilly need to have a talk!!!! LOL

I got one of those GenRac's ( sp??)....that baby is the size of a VW bug and is a 20KW!!!

When the power goes down...the power co. guys call me and want coffee cause I'm the ONLY one around with power!!!!

Jigs---you old romantic, you!!!    A generator for Christmas is wayyyyyyy more exciting than any old diamond or ruby, huh????   Course, considering what you 2 have been through, I'm sure she will absolutely LOVE it!!  Stay warm and stay safe.....keep us all posted!

20KW, how much will that run?? I found a 30 KW that has a surge arrestor on it that seems worth the money...... wanna make sure it will handle everything!

I've got a house that is BIG...and I've got power to spare! A 30KW will handle most anything you want to put on it. Make sure you get the automatic ' the switch'.

With mine....when the power goes off for so many seconds....the system will automatically throw a switch and WHAMMO...you got power.

You don't have to get up outta bed and try to crank it up....just roll over and enjoy the knowledge that you got power. Mine also does an automatic ck on itself every week, it's starts up and runs for about 30 minutes ..that way all systems are ' go' when needed!

Mine runs on LP...I've got a 500 gal tank...and from what I can ' cypher' it takes about 5-6 gals LP an hour, depends on if I want to run EVERYTHING in the house or not. I usually don't turn on every switch on the place....but I could.

I LOVE mine....best thing I ever got and mine WAS a Christmas present!!

Jigs glad to see ya back. Heck I was wondering how ya were enough I called Katrina to see if she had a phone number for ya. I got my mrs a generator for last christmas... It is just a little one 5500 watt http://www.generatorinformation.com/products/second/detail.cfm?p=438&s=4 but it will do all I need it to do. If you go to like here http://www.briggsandstratton.com/corp/feature/generator-info.aspx
It will give you some help. Glad to hear you are getting back to normal. If you need some help let me know we had only about a 1/4-3/8 of ice here and 3-4 in of snow. We were only without lights for about 5-6 hrs total so we are very lucky.

hey Stretch!
guess it is those GREAT Jefferson County employees keeping it going over there!!
boy it is tough here. drove to Superior, and it is only 15 miles away, but they had no idea there was so many with out power!!

ran 50 mph on the roads there, get half way home and it was like a different world.

inlaws just called, they are in central kansas....... said it may be 2 weeks before they get back on the grid!!
over 400 poles snapped.

I guy don't have to look far to see he is not so bad off.

You live in Goergia....what do you need a generator for, its not like your going to have a blizzard and the snow knocks your power out

Wait a minute its probably all the power you need for your 30 man hot tub,you know the one you bought for when jigs visits and brings his fav. football team :D

I hate ice storms, they really wreck trees, power lines etc...luckily we haven't had one for a few years.

Next time don't waste money on a hotel....Kola will put you up...she has a big hot tub :D

somehow, I knew Kola was one of the "whole team" kinda gals!

I would never subject my Wildcats to some southern tramp! shame on you Mrs. Greg......

Thank god we don't let it up to JC   to keep the power on for us we get ours from the city of Fby. The people that are on Norris Public Power seem to usually be off the longest if any are off. Oddly enough they have the best looking lines, near new poles and tree's cleared way back. Don't forget my offer if ya need some help. I may be poor help but I am at least maybe some help....

Oh naughty, naughty,,,, You shouldn't pick on poor Jigs like that....

Wimp!!!, thats all I have to say.
You'd never hack it living here.
Power outages are a very common occurrence and can very well last for days.
Getting a generator would be a good thing though. I have one now.

Believe it or not ya'll....we do have ice storms in the south. And when we do......power lines go down, not only from snapped poles...but from all the trees that go down and take the power lines with em when they go.

 :o You better run,Kola has guns and ain't afraid to use them

Generators are like umbrellas- when you have one you never require it. At least that's how it has worked here. Every winter when hubby traveled I'd be without power and super frustrated. So he finally caved and bought me one. Haven't needed ever to run it since!

Sorry to hear about that midwest ice storm though. and all the related injuries and deaths.

I put on over 150 miles yesterday delivering feed, and it weren't pretty. North of Guide Rock on 78 you could run 80 mph for about 10 miles, then all of a sudden 35 was pushing it. I'm just glad I can take the Hotsy to the truck today while I'm pulling my shift. No power outages here whatsoever, but they did get the call to put the twin turbo engine on on Monday and make 1500 KW for about 4 hours. Somebody was having problems somewhere.

Jiggsy, tire chains make a damn romantic gift for Valentine's Day!

So....How was the pizza you got in Superior?

We had a honest-to-goodness blizzard once...it was in March....about '92 I think it was. Here in the hills we had about 32" of snow. First time I EVER heard it thunder while snowing!!! That crap was almost up to my waist...cows calving in it...water froze....wind's going about 30 mph....I HATED IT!!!!!

Ice Storms....tornadoes, hurricanes..... and I'm at the very end of the lines and my power goes out when a squirrel farts....so I've learned to be prepared.

Besides the neighbors LOVE IT...not that I share my power BUT...BUT....when the crews are out working in this area when there is a ' disaster'....I'm the one with the hot coffee and biscuits for the crews....they pile in here to ' tank up and go' and this valley neighborhood is usually one of the first to get the juice back on. There is method to the madness.

Mom even had a RumCake one year...made with moonshine instead of rum.....we had power back on in about an hour once they found out that they'd get the whole cake.....and it was Christmas Eve that year!!! They just laid lines on the ground until they could come back and fix'em better....but regardless we had ' juice' going!!!

And there is the 3 jacuzzi tubs in the house and the hot tub that must be kept going!! There are just some things a girl can't live without ya know!!!

Believe me, I've tried to lure jigs on this side of the Mississippi....but he keeps running backwards on me. All bark and no bite!!!!

He told me that he just could not " pull the trigger on the deal'....so I'm not sure how to translate that!!!!
