after reading a thread a few bars down, about help wanted or needed, and knowing what its like working a job in town when i would rather be farming or ranching on my own, i decided to open a new post with this poem to share.my notes say i wrote this in 1999 after losing my farm and going to town to start over.it has been edited to protect the innocent.thanks...
like climbing a mountain---the paths have been rough
with scars to show---the times have been tough
i have caused heartache---sorrow and pain
in the last few years---i have made little gain
please forgive me---for i've met no harm
just wanted a chance---for my boys to farm
but with one in Jencos---and the other into his Rap
i find myself broke---with a baby in my lap
i still dream of farming---but just realized
i must give it up---another dream has just died
so i must get a job----and go to work in town
to stand up straight---and take off my frown
i'll make good money---and buy a new house
plow a new garden---and spruce up my spouse
and maybe if i'm lucky---in the next few years
they'll be no more sorrow---heartache or fears
tho my boys won't be farmers---i understand
i'll find a new dream---i still love the land
i'll buy a small place---an acreage if i can
and a horse for me---and a pony for KayAnn
--[note]--KayAnn is my daughter and i have posted our pics,
may God bless those who do not have the blessing to live off the land.
