Foot and mouth disease

· Scientists studying foot and mouth disease have found that cattle with the virus are infectious for only a very short time, suggesting that mass culling previously used to reduce the disease's spread may in future be avoided. (Reuters, BBC)

· Foot and mouth disease crisis in the UK occurred 10 years ago; farmers, veterinarians and animal welfare activists remember the event and how it has impacted their lives. (BBC)
