Or does anybody else think an Angus bull that is plus 110 yearling, plus 28 milk and minus 12.45 EN might leave daughters that are a bit spendy to keep around. Maybe I should just give up and buy a seeddrill and a mixmill.

I think if I liked the way he looked, and I liked his herdmates, his sire, and his dam I would use him and damn the EPD's.

I pretty much agree. I don't really like extremes either, except for a purebred breeder, they are easy to sell.

If I like a bull, I must see his dam, and if I really like her, I might use him. The numbers to me are just that. I own a bull that has a 102 YW EPD and his daughters calved for the first time this spring, and they came in this fall in better condition, but I really like his dam as she is built like hog. Deep ribbed, long made and easy keeping.

did you just get an update on Chisum?
I expect he will sell like hotcakes, but not to me.
The numbers thing is getting a tad ridiculous. It is hard to find AI sires, when bigger is better wins all the time. We pay A LOT of attention to EPD, but we aren't looking for the fastest and fleetest.

Actually you are probably just mad about the bottom side of his sire's pedigree...

well said, and same here

I didn't even look much at the pedigree-with numbers like that they wouldn't last till four here. I'm damned if I'm going to 'feed to the EPD' like alot of purebred guys seem to be doing. I'm having a hell of a time selling semen-guys order it-I deliver it-they ask me what I think I tell them. Be nice to have a bull I could get all hot and bothered over for a change.

i use EPDs but thats not the only thing i look at. i may have mentioned it before but i choose bulls in terms of what kind of replacements they will give me above anything else. i'm not at all interested in a bull with 60+ww, 110+YW and 25+Milk, but those are the ones that will be the high sellers at many sales. maybe i've got it all wrong.....

We were pretty interested in Genex' Cupid bull, but it seems his titres were too high to make it to the Canadian marketplace.
