I think Jack deserved his ESPY....Johnny, not so much.... I am watching his star fade, he will be a huge disappointment as time goes by..... he is a modern version of Ryan Leaf.

A lot of what some think of as "outlaws" did very well both in college and the pros even tho they don't necessarily fit the picture of the choir boy everyone wants them to be. A Teebow he ain't but a winner on the field he is!! Kats don't have to worry about him anyway.

following him this year will be interesting, I predict a "sophomore slump" the kid is on the way to being a big disappointment..... really needs to get some perspective, and guidance or it will be a train wreck in the future

That is always possible but I don't see it happening. He seems to get down to business when he puts on that helmet. Maturity takes time along with a lot of knock downs. He will get some of those. How he handles them will decide his future.

I can easily see that, SEC defenses have had a year to figure out how to stop him.

He won't have the same offensive line this year and if doesn't do good, all the blame will be put squarely on him..................... kind of unfair if you ask me.

We'll see.

I think he's one heck of a competitor and wish him luck.

I agree. I hope he does good, but he really has everything going against him. Everyone knows about him now. I think he needs to keep more of a lower profile at least until he gets drafted and actually get a deal in place. Going on twitter and saying how you can't wait to leave a&m dosnt really do anything of any good for him for example.

True but he has to man up and accept whatever happens. The good ones realize they can't do it by themselves. If HE thinks he can maybe the bad aZZ dude from SC will knock a bit of reality into him.

You called it, after reading this, all I could think about was Ryan Leaf.

Remember This About Johnny Manziel: His Dad Bought Him a New Car For Staying Away From Alcohol in High School

Johnny Manziel has been the biggest story in sports this summer, eclipsed only by alleged murderer Aaron Hernandez, formerly of the New England Patriots. We've probably written, on average, a post or two a week about the rising redshirt sophomore who won the Heisman last season. Reminder: Manziel is 20 years old. It's hard to imagine anyone upstaging Nick Saban at SEC media days, but Manziel was by far the biggest deal in Birmingham.

Today, ESPN's Wright Thompson dropped a lengthy, informative story on Johnny Manziel, furthering the discussion on one of the most fascinating athletes in college football over the last 25 years. How many Heisman trophy winners saw an alcohol counselor during the season, and then a therapist after it? Personal assistants, bodyguards … sports fans haven't seen anything like this on the college level. And that's without delving into the dicey topic of the school profiting handsomely off Manziel – valued at $37 million last season – and the star and his family being none-too-happy about what he's getting in return.

As spellbinding as Manziel's story is, one thing few people have mentioned is that he's really the same mouthy rich kid he was in high school. In a podcast with Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle, Manziel's high school past came up, and his partying was mentioned. The New York Times actually wrote about it last November, but everyone either forgot or missed the story during Thanksgiving week:

His father made him a deal: he would buy Manziel a new car if he stayed away from alcohol during his junior and senior years in high school. One summer night, Manziel went to Wal-Mart to buy a phone charger, the security guard smelled alcohol and the police were called.

Manziel denied he had been drinking but was taken to jail. The next day, his father picked him up, sold the car and replaced it with a busted pickup truck that would repeatedly break down on the way to school. He refused to pay the fine for his son, and when the judge sentenced Manziel to 10 hours of community service, John Paul said: Make it 20.

What's the point of re-hashing this? Not to say Manziel is a boozehound (another discussion for another day), but rather to point something out – he's been a party animal for years. And he's always rebounded on the field to do incredible things that shock and awe. Manziel was responsible for 77 touchdowns (not a misprint) as a senior. Forty-five passing, 30 running, one receiving, and one on a kickoff return. A few months after his arrest in 2012, he stunned #1 Alabama on the road.

Man, I really hope Manziel beats the Tide again on September 14th.

Grown men sitting around hoping a kid fails at what he's good at?

I'd much rather see him party and drink a beer than I had see some thug get arrested for a rape or shooting someone. Those are things that are hurting college football now.

Johnny Football didn't deserve his ESPY? Did the ones that say that even watch him play last year?

I like the fact his dad sold his new car. Most kids of his talent in high school are just babied and let get away with anything, as well as everyone telling them they are the greatest ever. I will say that A&M need him way more than he needs them right now. I do think they should be doing a little more to curb his always being in the spotlite for the wrong reason. I mean before everyone found out about him last year who would have tuned in to watch A&M play in the sec. I mean they had some good years in the big 12 but hardly a national spotlight on them every Saturday like it was a year ago.

I certainly can't throw stones at anyone..IF he's guilty as accused tho I hope the remove him from the roster and let him go home and practice for his big day in the pro try-outs. Other kids are wanting to play college football !!

if they find him guilty, I think he needs booted from the team, and then they need to look at ESPN...they created this media frenzie that has pushed the kid...ESPN is partly to blame for his wild behavior, treating him like they do.... ESPN has ruined what I think at one time was the greatest sport on Earth, College Football.

Never happen, Jiggsy. The ESPN throws around too many dollars college football's way to get in trouble. Disney's pockets are mega-deep.

If he did take money to sign all that stuff. Which I think he probably did. He will deffinantly be ruled in eligible. And will be done in college. I still think the school should be doing more to keep him on the right path. I mean they sold some tickets to set next to him at some banquet for $20,000 each. The one part that kind of bugs me about him. Is when interviewed and asked about certain things he always says well I'm just 20 years old. when i was 20 i dont remember that being a valed excuse for anything. If he wants to go out and drink and have a good time that's fine I know I did when I was that age. But you just can't ditch your commitments like the Peyton manning camp thing when your hungover.
