A goodun.........who's the boy ride for? I generally go to the WRCA finals. Maybe I could see it first hand.

Himself, and the other guys do the same. I think they will be the only team from South Dakota there, this year. Hope you go and cheer them on.

The pup is only 3 weeks old so it will be awhile before I get to even see him, let alone bring him home. Great, a pup during colde weather. I can already see the little moman having to clean up all of his messes in the house.

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Oh and Mike, you bet the horse will have one to go with him when YOU come to get him. Of course, we really should talk about the cost of horse and saddle as I wouldn't want you to be shocked when you get here.

The wife just informed me that I am heading out to Helena this winter sometime... Might just have to drop by ol JB's place and look at some horses and some saddles on the way there... Sure... I can just see it now..

Now, is the horse and saddle price one of those, if you have to ask you can't afford it situations   I'm sure I'll be feeling all money rich in a couple weeks.. Of course, in 40 weeks or so I will start looking at the finances and going, this can wait till I sell the calves, this can wait... Yeah, that can wait, nope not that....I always like to tell the bankers that I am rich for about one week a year...

Just ask nr, or Saddle Tramp or Kola. :-)

You going to Helena???? You just have to come and see us!!! 4 hour drive, though  I'm serious about you coming to see us, we went to the same university, have lots in common...

Oh... We will be in Montana one of these days and it will be for a while and we will have to stop a lot because of the baby and little girl... they can't handle long car rides as well as I can (Or maybe I am just using them as a good excuse because my body doesn't handle it as well anymore either   ).. My wife has been climbing the walls about heading back out there for 5 years, lol... And I am really starting to miss the place.... Need to sell this place and move out there but with the price of land out there I don't think the 1800 acres of Illinois farm land would convert to much production out there.

Oh, I would have to stop by, need to look at some Gelbvieh cattle after all.. See, that way I can write the trip off as business  or so the accountant tells me. Here is the probem... I like Montana in the Fall, Winter, Spring and summer... Hard to pick just one season to visit, lol... How far north of 90 are you?

Good ranch sold here the other day at auction for around 8000 a unit.

What's it costing for a unit out there?

The last cattle place, pure cattle that is, that we looked at was 3000 acres in Southern Illinois.. Lovely country but a lot of timber. Talking to some folks they figured it could run 1000-1200 head but maybe more if a fertility program was ru on the soil... I think it was going to take 5.5 million to get it bought.. So that is between 5500 a unit or maybe 4500ish on the high end of capacity. Had good fences, ponds, houses and oil, okay facilities... Needed a little help cleaning the place up.

Up here.. could be between 4000-6000 a unit depending on the ground.. you would be buying crop ground to put under seed...But an acre of our crop ground is pretty darn productive.. Talk to some folks and they will tell you an acre could grow the hay and grass for one cow for a year... I think that is pushing it personally but the hay I have seen come off that good deep ground... Yikes... of course, our cattle area right here is a sand dune and a swamp so we aren't so producitve, lol..

There was a 2500 acre place around here last year that was for sale for 7.5 million I think. Real hilly (For this area) ground... would have been great cattle place.. Only problem was it is split up in 2-4 pieces.. They have been trying to sell it for years and folks keep farming it... Should be pastured. Wish I had the money to buy it... Not even close.

Here's the one I just got done with.

On a roper foam tree with a cable rigging.

The young feller who ordered this one is going to the Ranch Rodeo Finals in Amarillo in a few days and wanted to take this along. So I been tryin' to get it done for him. Stirrups ain't got here yet so he'll have to use his old ones, but I don't think he'll mind too much.quote]
