No herefords he must not have been allergic to money as most hereford guys are.

so its just going to end on that note.... well i'm allergic to money alright, money spent propping up cattle.

Funny how a thread giving notice of a never before offered herd of good cattle can turn out the way it did.

I don't care what breed or colour cattle are H76, as long as they are good ones that show consistancy that is all that counts. If it ever happens that our cattle get too red or black there will likely be good Horned Hereford sires used here again.
The sad part about the Hereford deal right now is that the calves are discounted 8 to 10 cents regardless of quality. It is significant enough to put commercial Hereford herds on the endangered list. People forget that the modern day industry was built around a Hereford cow and that the good ones still have a place in today's crossbreeding strategies.
I still see too much evidence of the 80's genetics in a lot of the pedigreed herds in this country but they are slowly getting back to sensible, usable cattle.

well i heard they were selling off all those cows to start over with herefords.... :) my comment on propping up cattle had nothing to do with this outfit - i don't know them or the cattle, i just feel like i have to stick up for herefords when they get slammed or hereford people get slammed. people have forgotten about the significance of a hereford and how its been the backbone of an industry... i don't think folks are allergic to money - to me there are just some folks that hold onto tradition/heritage harder than others. thats how that whole saying about hereford guys allergic to money even started. here the only drawback to raising straight horned hereford feeders is i have to do my homework come sale time - there isn't the convenience of being able to take cattle to any salebarn with any amount of cattle unannounced and expect not to get dinged. there are feeders that actually do prefer feeding a straight hereford - horned that is, out there. but show up with 10, 20, 30, 40 head unannounced at a sale barn and you will get dinged that 8 10 cents.

If ya want to get technical the NA ranching industry was started with longhorns. Durham cattle were brought west to improve them, to some extent Angus, but there were far more Herefords NA wide from the 30's to the mid 80's than any other beef breed.

Even now there are still a lot of herds that have white or brockle faces that aren't derived from Simmental.
