Funny how a thread giving notice of a never before offered herd of good cattle can turn out the way it did.
I don't care what breed or colour cattle are H76, as long as they are good ones that show consistancy that is all that counts. If it ever happens that our cattle get too red or black there will likely be good Horned Hereford sires used here again.
The sad part about the Hereford deal right now is that the calves are discounted 8 to 10 cents regardless of quality. It is significant enough to put commercial Hereford herds on the endangered list. People forget that the modern day industry was built around a Hereford cow and that the good ones still have a place in today's crossbreeding strategies.
I still see too much evidence of the 80's genetics in a lot of the pedigreed herds in this country but they are slowly getting back to sensible, usable cattle.
