Well I'm covered with dust and spider webs but I found some of my A'I archives for Hereford 76-catalogues pretty much from the advent of A'I to the present. As I look through them-we had some great cattle in the late 60's early 70's then when I get to the late 80's early 90's I have to wonder WTF were people thinking. It would be pretty cool, to set up a bunch of tables here-have a ranchers.net get together and paw through my archives-I've got dozens of lawyer boxes full of cattle publications etc.

I'd love to see them too........ while sitting in a blind waitin' on a big ol' buck/moose/bear/wolf/ect. I was part of that 80's BS while in high school. A decent moderate framed steer that finished at 1200 and yeilded high choice couldn't even win it's class at the county stockshow. My younger brother won reserve champion 3 years later with a 1585 pound crossbred giraffe! Had legs like a holstien and put away groceries like a sumo wrestler on marajuanna! Even as a kid, i remember thinking how can this continue?

There's a picture of a Santa Getrudis cow in one catalogue-she's seventeen and looks as good as any cow I've seen. I think I found the bull Hereford 76 is looking for.

NR- I only followed a couple of breeds since that time (back when all the "experts" told me that if you didn't go 100% continental breeding you wouldn't be able to compete)-- and only kept up well with/studied most of the black angus bloodlines- and the changes in them - but I have to agree with you 100%....

My only mistake was it took til they started promoting cattle bigger than my saddle horses (that could/did leap tall buildings and could run thru brick walls) that made me realize what it was costing me.....

To me the industry is lucky some didn't buy into the "fad of the day"- "bull of the month" and some of those old bloodlines are still around.....

My dad had years and years worth of the American Hereford Journals. He donated them to the Arthur Bowring Sandhills Ranch so others could look at them. He also has a collection of the catalogs from every Hereford bull sale he attended through the years.

Once my sister was sitting on a little stool in the corner of the room, with her "Clowny" doll sitting at her side. She hardly moved for quite a long period of time. Finally my mother asked her what in the world she was doing. My sister calmly replied, "We are watching a bull sale."
