One of the highlights of the whole weekend was getting to see this gentleman. He and I were both part of the crew on a twelve-day pack trip through Yellowstone and the Teton Wilderness Area in late August of 1971. We had not seen each other since, and I very much enjoyed our visits during the course of Mule Days.

Lynn Weishaar, auctioneer, and Jake Clark, who conducted a very well-run Mule Days celebration and sale. My hat is off to both of these men.

Bid on your choice or tie them both together for two times the money. These full sisters, six and seven years old, were broke to ride and drive.

High-selling mule of the sale was a very well trained two-year-old, which brought $12,500 and sold to nice folks from Washington state.

Peach Blossom and our conveyance. For a nice Father's Day present, the Kosmo Kid let us borrow his car which gets 30 miles per gallon. Thanks, son. :-)

The new mule beat us home. All in all, it was a fun-filled few days that Peach Blossom and I thoroughly enjoyed. :-)

Man, the suspence was killing me! Unless I have missed something, you held off until the end to fess up about buying one. 'Don't know much about mules, but looks to be a good, big one. Did the two sisters sell as a pair, or did they get split?

They sold as a pair, for $3200 each ($6400 for the "team" which in mule language is properly called a "span").

just curious what a good broke team sells for out there? here in fl you can buy a fair team for anywhere from 3000 on up.

There was just the one team that sold, and they brought $6400 for the pair. It is primarily a saddle mule sale, but they both happened to be broke to ride and drive.

Sorry, I'm so "mule dumb", but what is the purpose of the mule on your outfit? All I know is the expression "Stubborn as a mule".

They are supposed to be smoother to ride. When you get older, as Soap is, that's important.

They probably have about the same purpose as a stock car, a golf club, a motorcycle, a boat, a hang-glider, or a pet baboon. :???:  :-)

I've never hear of a fella buying a mule in a mid life crisis :) But I guess it's better than bringing home a lowline or some other fancy critter :) Good looking mule there Soap! He is actually rather handsome :)

Ah....thanks for the education Jinglebob and Soapweed! It is always important to learn something every day  So can I interpret your answer Soapweed to be "a mule is an expensive toy" ?:!:

Last fall my Dad, Uncle, Grandfather, and my Uncle's hired man traveled to Iowa to a huge draft horse, team, harness sell that lasted days. My Dad was so impressed he thinks we should all go this year. I'm not sure he'd bring home a team of mules. However, I've heard they are smooth to ride. I think they'd give the ranch horses a heartattack  the first time one went to braying, it took the ranch horses a bit to get used to the minature pony that PaPa and Grammie got for the young ones a couple years ago.

You can do about anything with a mule that you can a horse, but it is just not as easy. Sometimes we all need the mental exhuberance of a challenge. :-)

I wonder if a mule could teach stubborn 4-H calves to lead like donkeys can??

I think the young cowboy on this place has the stubbornest 4-H calf in the country we could pair your mule and his calf Tarzan together and see who wins :). I've been helping work on the calf and so far he can lead a small boy, a mother, and a grandma........my money is on the calf. :D

You just have to prove to the mule that you are smarter than he.I find that is sometimes quite humiliating. :D :D :D :D

.

mules aint really stubborn, just too smart to let some fool human cause them to hurt themselves.first thing i learned from the fella who taught me was as juan said, you have to be just a little smarter than the mule.like some people a mule will do most anything once you convince him it was his idea.

Good pics, almost felt like I was right there.

Soap, Kosmo shared his car with you, you share your new mule with him....awesome deal!
