SNOW!
Just a skiff but it's almost the end of April :? :???: One year ago the grass was growing and there was corn in the ground.

Oh well the wood pile isn't all gone yet . . .

One year ago we had 500 acres of corn planted and started on soybeans - - - my son is chomping at the bit.

I think if he could figure a way to pull a 12 row planter with a boat he would be out there!

5" of rain in the last 36 hours and +35F this morning - - - the best we can do is make sure we are ready when the lord gets mother nature ready!

Thinking of buying an extra drill so that when the time is right we can move faster. We bought the old Stainless steel tanker from the fire department and put a hitch on it so we can keep up with the sprayer and the 28% for the corn planter.

We can plant about 100 acres a day with the 12 row and about another 120 acres fo beans with the 30' drill but we are staring at 2,300 acres and we want it in the ground in a timely manner.

Your son has been chomping for some time if I remember right George. My neighbor checked the soil temp yesterday and it was 35. It seems like it's getting late but I guess there is no rush yet. We like to start planting corn about May 1st but it may be a little later this year. At what point will you switch to beans or will you just stick with shorter day corn.

I know this isn't farmers.net but if this corn crop doesn't get in the ground in a timely manner it will most surely affect the price of feeder calves this fall.

I am afraid not in a good way either.

snow today, but the foot or so on the ground is old winter snow pack, gee wanted the ewes undressed as they start lambing next week. helped a angus cow have twins last night, they were close enought to each others side she had kind of given up.

Yes my son ( and I ) are always ready to get the work done. We were completely done with both corn and soybeans the last week of April last year. Even put in about 500 acres of custom planting

But we are ready when the ground dries out enough.

The weather is in control but we are ready whenever it is!
