Would you provide a link showing you need a state health to ship cows to a sale barn in SD.

ranch hand:

Although I'm not MRJ, this is a link of health requirement of livestock entering the State of South Dakota...

http://www.state.sd.us/aib/importrequirements.htm

Most states have similar requirements...

I hope this helps...

I need the rules from SD ranch to sale barn. My boss has loaded culls to go to Lemmon without any health. Wondering if this was something new. Thanks for the site even if I can not find the rules.

In general (so in some cases it isn't always true) you don't need a health to move in state...an example of this exception might be moving out of a TB zone into a TB free zone, like in Michigan, but I don't know Michigan's rules, so am not sure.

Sorry I had no idea you were in SD...you just asked about moving cattle to a SD salebarn. If you are East River, you might need a brand, but don't know for sure. I know that living West River we have to have a brand to go to a East River Auction Market, like Mobridge.

All of SD's animal health rules can be found at the two sites I listed, and then if there are questions, I'd make a call to my local vet., or else to the State Vet's office. Both should know the movement requirements for livestock both in state and out of state.

Sorry I didn't help more,

ranch hand, I believe I cleared that up in the thread in which I posted. I knew what I was thinking, but maybe someone did not read it as I was thinking it. Got that??? I'm joking!

It probably wasn't clear, as my time on this machine is limited, it is old, I'm old, and I don't always take the time needed to be sure things are clear. Sorry if I irritated some of you on that post.

OK, here it is: a health inspection is required before loading cattle if they are NOT going to a sale barn, being sold by some other means.

My point in the post is that health inspections are, FIRST, the duty of states, not Federal government as some has indicated, and that there are SEVERAL health and/or food safety inspections of cattle/beef, by both state and federal governments between the ranch where the critter originates, and the consumers plate.

Thanks, TTB, for stepping in with information while I was absent for a few hours.

Doug, I have no way of knowing whether that is fact of not, and no time to go digging into it. I'm very sure no one, or organization, least of all NCBA, likes to see cattle prices drop.

My best suggestion for you to find the facts would be if you email either Terry Stokes, CEO of NCBA, or Greg Doud, NCBA Economist. The emails" [email protected] and [email protected]. Marketing is not my primary interest. I let other family members handle that.
