We've been pretty lucky this spring. The mustangs have bunched up for the most part and the Cowboys have turned some of the water off. The mustangs have to stay around where the balance of the water is, and that means it makes it easier for us to track them down.
While driving down the road, we were lucky enough to see a couple of white spots that didn't quite look right, so we stopped to glass them. With the glasses the whole hillside came alive with horses. It was interesting that they was only a quarter mile from where they were three weeks ago.
We circled back around them and when we came over the ridge to where we could see them, they were headed down a canyon toward water. We were able to get ahead of them without spooking them. On the bottom end of the canyon we waited for them to come over the ridge.
They strung out, climbing high around the ridge. "Quite a sight."
This was the first look I got at the new colt that cost me the milk shake.
For anyone interested,,, This is the paint mares first colt.
The paint mares second colt.
The paint mares third colt.
The paint mares fourth colt.
The paint mares fifth colt, along with the fourth. He sure looks big compared to the mare, for being just a year old.
Whats the chance that both of these too colts are out of the same dad ?
Though the BM brand is on her left hip, designating she has been given the birth control shot, she blessed the world with a new colt this year. Even though it cost me a milkshake, I will be more than thrilled if she has another one next spring. (A possibility if she can evade the BLM for another year)
