This was yesterday. He did real good, he's seven.

Nice to see kids riding again. Seems like for a while they started on quads or motorbikes Lots of "million dollar" kids horses showing up too.

That looks like a good deal to me. That horse is sure listening.
You are about three years from a handy young helper, and he has about a ten year head start on a good upbringing. I was a little older than him when I started riding, but the teaching that went along with it was invaluable.
Someday he will remember those saddle talks with his Dad, and be thankful. Kinda like I am for the reminder.

That's a good horse when you can ride through stalks.... Prolly worth his weight in gold..... My dad used to pack diapers in his saddle bags for me.. I started out in front of him in the saddle and graduated to an old mare with ring bone. All my friends growing up were real cowboys, and I'd like to think a little of them rubbed off on me...

I'm like Katrina, I don't ever remember NOT riding. I had a few ponies, but never had a good one, and never rode a saddle until I was a junior in highschool. Fast forward 25 years, my oldest never made it home from the hospital, before she was horseback, and neither one of the girls had ponies!!

Its just amazing how the bond between parent and child grows, when you are both horseback.

Man that kid is growing.
They both sure are Jake, Stivers is seven and Shaw Brooks is five. Bailey is almost 19 and in Fayettville, that hurts. Stivers can even drive a pickup by himself, that boy is all the way ready.

Stivers was about ready to take over the place when I was down there. Two good boys, remind me of my little brother and myself. Mixed reviews on how we turned out but I think most are positive.

Kids and horses! IT!!
I didn't get a horse til I was 15 (took that long for my parents to realize
I was serious) but I rode lots of others. Our daughter started riding
way young and she's still riding today.

I remember coming home from town, (she was just a youngster)
and she was standing by a gate
holding her horse and crying because she couldn't shut the wire gate.
She knew better than to drop it and leave. Mr. FH fixed her a rope to
use to shut the gates after that. Mentioning this just to show how many
ways kids learn responsibility--and it doesn't come from sitting in front
of a video machine.

Horses have been darned important to this family.

Looks like you have a real good partner coming up there, jed.
And you certainly have him mounted well. How old is his horse?

He's 8 or 9, have the papers but don't remember.

Sure is nice to see the young ones taking an interest and taking part!
