My journal entry for Tuesday, September 3, 1968
We all got up at a pretty good time, because it was my first day at Gordon High School. After breakfast, Sandra, Sybil, and I took off. They waited at Grandma's house until their school started, but I had to get on the bus by 7:00.
Louie Mason is our bus driver, and a good one. There are between 15 and 20 of us kids that ride the 30 miles one way, between Merriman and Gordon.
We got to Gordon 20 minutes early and had to wait outside until the doors opened. About 350 high school kids flooded into the halls of ivy at 8:00.
The Merriman kids especially had kind of a hard time of it. (We were rather lost.) They crowded in five periods instead of the usual four in the morning. My schedule is: Algebra II, Study Hall, English, Ag, noon, American History, Study Hall, Study Hall.
We eat our dinners down in the gym. Ken Moreland, Timmy Snyder, Ernie Bennett, and I just goofed around during the noon hour.
Ordinary school stopped for the day at 2:15. Then every class had a class meeting. We got out at 3:00, but Louie didn't know about it. Someone of the Merriman bunch had to call him at the gas station where he works during the day.
When we got back to Merriman, I picked up my sisters and we went home. Dad got back from Montana about noon today.
I changed clothes and went over east of the branding corral. I mowed until about 6:30, and then we did chores.
