I was at the sale on March first and Thuderstruck was not sold "private treaty" before the sale. I am a member of this "consortium" of breeders.
There are 12 of us that pooled our money together to buy the half semen interest in Thunderstruck. Each of us put in what we could afford and then we got a percentage of the half we bought based on how much money we put in. Lucky 7 Angus in Wyoming was the contending bidder. Jerry Gliko had money from Lucky 7 to $30,000. When it hit $30k Jerry got him on the phone and they ran us to $42,000. That's the real story.
The bulls sold like crazy at Mytty's sale. The IN Focus still have been the highest selling group for the past 3-4 years, are darn good, and they must be working for somebody. Several bulls sold into WY, ID, WA, &OR. There were several bulls that sold for $3,500 to $5,000 to commercial and registered cattlemen. I have been to the sale for the past three years and they were the stoutest set of bulls yet.
Kevin has worked at putting a good group of cattle together that will work in any program. If you don't like his program or the bulls he produces, that's fine, but make sure you have your story straight before you start blowing smoke on here.
Good for you!
I get sick of hearing people say that it is funny money, or nothing but promotion or trading money or whatever some call it. The fact is, that ussually when a bull sells for a pretty good chunk of money it is a real deal.
Thank you BRG
I get tired of all the funny money rumors too. I just get tired of the rumor mill crap that goes on here and with all these guys around our area wondering what we are doing getting involved with a deal like this. We finished up getting enough people together to buy the interest 15 minutes before the sale started. Sure, most of us are a bunch of no name breeders, but we saw an opportunity to gain ownership in a bull that will hopefully have a very bright future.
The fact of the matter is that Thunderstruck is the real deal kind of bull. Anybody can say that he is just another "bigger-better-faster". His iterim epds are +1.4 BW +44 WW, +88 YW +18 for Milk, scanned a 15.9 REA 4.69 IMF & had .33 Backfat, had a 4.55 ADG and weighed 1507 lbs at a year. He's full of muscle, got great structure and his feet were sound. Pictures are worth a thousand words, but until you see him in person, it's pretty hard to say he was not worth the money. He is sired by Connealy Thunder out of a 6595 dam who is a direct daughter of Sitz Everalda Entense 023. Yeah, he has some 598 in him, but who really knows if that will come back to haunt him for FCS.
Oh, and I bought the only other son of Upward in the sale, but he's just another bigger-better-faster bull too!!!!
