I hope and pray that we get some water soon otherwise, it will be some very long nights and days at these barns. Some oldtimers was telling me Saturday about some runs they had at Navasota back in the 70's and 80's of 5,000-6,000 hd runs. They would sell cattle until Monday morning. The other sale I cover had their biggest run back in 2005 of 5200+. I know you guys up north think this is small, but here they sale them one at a time. I would hate to pull that gate 6,000 times

I am sorry I can't get the weight avg spread out so you can read it better.

Thanks so much for postin.....we averaged $313.88 a head on the calves. Not too bad since they was on the small side.

Averaged 415.79 a head on the cows, a couple were dry, and the rest were just one's I decided should go. Older cows, one hereford/bramer cross cow that just started showin signs of cancer eye. (first one of those we've ever had)

sold one older bull, 9 years old....and got a whoppin $650.75 for him LOL That surprized me.

Average weight on the calves was 270#. I've seen it alot worse. I remember several years back haulin calves in and not gettin but 60 or so cents a lb. Durin another drought. So I'm pleased with what we did get, cuz it could always be worse. Especially with the numbers that went thru the sale yesterday. I'm sure part of it was because of the holiday weekend the previous weekend...but the main reason is just plain dry dirt.

I think you did fine. I always like to have those kind of things behind
me, cuz it's hard on me emotionally to sell cattle, regardless of what
they bring. Once it's behind me, I have a lot better attitude and can
move on to the next thing.

How'd lil Lily do at the barrell race?

Mr. Toilet Paper ran in the 2D again!!!!!! this makes 3 times. Wooohooooo. She got points in the Youth 2D as well.

Tanks run...well there was a malfunction at the second barrel. LOL She's still figurin him out. He hit....and she over compensated tryin to help him on around it, even tho it fell.....and when she did...the reins went over his head...(it all happened in a split second) so when she left the second, she had all the reins on the left side of his head. So when he tried to tak off to the third, and she realized what happened ......she more or less done lil doughnuts and bailed....he stopped as soon as she got off.

Hey Trinity Man, Saw a few trailers running down hwy 6 saturday morning as i was flying through Navasota. What other sales are around there and what days are they on?? My friend that i grew up with bought a little place around Giddens and is wantiing me to buy him a few cows and bring them to him, i'm thinking it might be easier to buy the cattle down there closer to him but I have no idea where the sale barns are or what days they are on??

Thanks,

There's another salebarn between Navasota and Anderson that sells on Thursdays.

Cattleman's Brenham Livestock Auction sells on Mondays.

Brazos Valley Livestock Commission in Bryan, sells on Monday's too I think, they don't have a website that I can find.

Huntsville Livestock Auction....not positive but I think they sell on Monday too.

But you will by far have the biggest selection at the Navasota Livestock Auction that sells on Saturday.

Thanks,

Here is a list of barn we cover around the state.

Then you have Calvert Livestock auction ( I think they are Thursday) Caldwell Livestock Auction, ( Not sure but here is their number 979-567-4119), Hockley Livestock Auction (936-372-9125), Huntsville Livestock ( I know they are Mondays I used to work there in college), Buffalo Livestock (Saturday), Mid-Tex Livestock (Anderson Texas Thursday), Brazos Livestock (Bryan Texas Tuesday), East Texas Livestock, (Tuesday), Four County Livestock ( Industry Texas Tuesday), Navasota Livestock (Saturday), Groesbeck Livestock (Groesbeck Texas Thursday) and Milano livestock Exchange (Milano Texas Tuesday).

Those are the one off the top of my head. I can't say which one is the best, but I can say just look at the market reports we put out and you can see which one pays the best.

If you are buying cows bring a sleeping bag this time of the year. They told me Saturday they wasn't going to start sell cows until 12:00-1:00am.
Nights like those the buying is easy, because no one is there. So you can pick up some pretty good cows for 400-600 dollars hd. Greg is going to kill his cow market doing that to. I see the same type cows sell at other markets for 800-1000 dollars hd.

Ya know I don't know why he sells cows last either. We've been doin business at that salebarn now for goin on 20 years.....and cows have always been last to sell.

???

A guy told me that is where he gets his special cow sale cows from.

thanks, i'm going to talk to my friend and see i maybe this will work better than me hauling them from here.
