NCBA statement re. CCMP's "USA Raised Beef" campai

This addresses some questions raised in several posts over the past three days or so.

* NCBA absolutely believes in the quality of U.S. beef, and obviously so do consumers. Consumer demand has grown 25% in the past six years thanks in large part to the dollars invested by U.S. cattlemen through the Beef Checkoff Program.

* NCBA is pleased to see others in the cattle industry embrace a market-driven country-of-origin program.

* NCBA believes U.S. cattlemen deserve to be rewarded for producing the best testing, highest quality beef in the world. Market driven programs create financial rewards: premiums for U.S. cattlmen who build and participate in source-or process-verified programs.

* A government mandated program takes every bit of premium out of cattlemen's pockets by commoditizing county-of-origin.

But Agman says the demand is going down. What is going on here, isn't the check-off working or don't they take credit for it when it falls, as I know they sure do think the credit goes to them when it goes up.

They used to be the front runner on mandatory labeling too, but flip flopped on that one too.

* NCBA believes U.S. cattlemen deserve to be rewarded for producing the best testing, highest quality beef in the world. Market driven programs create financial rewards: premiums for U.S. cattlmen who build and participate in source-or process-verified programs.

They can still do this with having a M'cool too.

* A government mandated program takes every bit of premium out of cattlemen's pockets by commoditizing county-of-origin.

No, they just label it for the higher quality of the beef they sell. It could be on the same label as the orgin one too.
