Need lots of prayers

Thursday Afternoon:

His ICP pressure has gone back up to 28 (as of noon), and they don't know why. All the medications they have given him today apparently hasn't done what they expected it to do. We will get another update here in a lil bit at the 2pm visitation. Basically we get updates from the nurses and not the Dr's. They don't come in except to make rounds early in the mornings, and late in the evenings. These nurses are phenominal.

Thankyou so much for the updates, Lilly. This case is dear and near to my heart. When I was a nurse, I cared for many head trauma patients in Rehab. A special bond is formed between the patient and nurse. Thoughts and prayers continue your way.

This evening's report wasn't good. His ICP pressure (brain pressure which is normal at 6 to 15 or so) is up to 42 and they can't seem to get it to lower. The medications they are giving him aren't helping it seems. He's been running a fever the last two days, and they can't get his temps down either. As of about 6 pm they were packin him in ice to try to get it down. The Dr's told his wife today if they don't see any positive changes in the next three days, they'll ask her to make a choice Sunday. I just think this is awful soon to be asking this. There have been many cases where people come out of stuff, and are unconcious alot longer than one week. We are all still praying, that's all we know to do.

I hope if ever I've had massive brain injury that my family would allow me to leave this earth and fly on to heaven rather than keep me in a vegetative state or even functioning at a low level. I would not want my relatives to go through that. Not just the financial drain but also the time drain, the emotional drain. The unending drain.

We have a good friend whose husband, before a biking accident, was the life of the party, cheerful, loved company etc. AFter a fairly minor head injury compared to what you're describing (he did fracture his head thogh it wasn't detected immediately) he has very little short-term memory and worse, has become combative towards his wife who is an extremely patient woman. He cannot be counted upon to follow through with any plan, even coming over for supper. He won't do anything unless he plans it, but he can't remember what he plans. Counseling doesn't work- he can't remember. He looks normal but the rest of his life is in shambles. The doctor says as he ages this will definitely not improve. A sad end to who he was and to what their marriage was.

nr, I agree with you. Lilly, all of the family needs to be strong at this time and be able to understand what quality of life your loved one will have after all the brain trauma he has endured., in case a decision needs to be made. God be with all of you.

Since my last report, his ICP pressure spiked to 62 late Thursday night after we had talked to them and it was 42. But durin the night it went back down and has held steady at 15 and 16 all of yesterday, last night and today.
The only thing they have in the plans is to do a dye test. That entails injecting dye into his system, and then doing a CT scan to see where exactly the blood is flowing in his brain.
I still think they should do a EEG, because it tells if the brain is making any functions at all, and where, etc. All the previous CT scans have told them whether or not there's any further bleeding in the brain.

Lily, hang in there. Prayers and love from family and friends are so important, especially when a loved one is hurt or ill, but especially to help those like you to be strong for the rest of the family. Youcan see that you have many just on this site doing their best, let alone those nearby praying for all of you.

I sincerely hope things work out the way you all want them to. From personal experience with a nephew injured in a horse accident, I know miracles do happen, prayers are answered, but we have to be prepared to accept answers we don't like much, too.

The hardest part for me was to be patient and to let God do the worrying and let the love and prayers of others REALLY comfort me, so that I could be of comfort to others. Waiting is so hard, but it helps to think about all those who are 'cheering' for all of you and sort of picture all the prayers and love. Hope it helps you, too, whatever the outcome.

Our prayers continue to be with all of you, that the right decisions will be made when the time comes.

There is a young man in this area that had a bad motorcycle wreck a couple years ago. He was traveling through Wyoming and hit an antelope with his bike. He was comatose for several weeks, but lots of prayers were with him. He came out of the ordeal and seems to be doing very well now.

Lily----sending hugs and prayers for your BIL and family at this time!! May God, his angels and the medical community heal this man...and his precious family!!!

Monday Jan 21.....Just wanna thank all of you again for your prayers....No medications being given at all now. Pressures are stayin in the normal range.....around 15. Yeah!!! and they asked his wife to bring his favorite foo foo smell shower gel today cuz they were gonna bath him, and thought maybe the smell would help trigger things and bring him around. They've finally let her touch and talk to him again after about 5 days.....I know that was so hard for her, just to walk in and not make a sound or touch him. I guess now that his pressures are stayin at a normal level they wanna see if outside stimulations can get him to wake up. He's not regained conciousness at all since the accident.

Still no word on when or if they'll do an EEG tho. But we are still pushin for them to do one. They are supposed to be doin a dye test sometime...but we haven't heard when they'll be doin that either.

Thanks Lilly for the update, and hopefully the simple things of touch and smell will help him recover faster...the power of suggestion is almost as powerful as prayer...We're still thinking of ya..take care.
