I'd show the rest of him, but I don't know what I'm looking for and may of messed up and don't know it... :D . Right after my tranny went out of my truck, the rear end went out of my bull....so today after getting my truck from being fixed, I went bull shopping and picked this guy out. I'm going to go get him this morning. I'm going to have to save up and be able to travel to get my next horned Hereford.

Sorry about all your breakdowns. We had a major breakdown with our baler, first thing major that has gone wrong with it. Has over 9000 bales through it. We have a dealer right here in town and they had it up and running yesterday, Mr. FH picked it up, started baling about 4 am and got
one bale before the exact same thing happened!! He felt really bad and he was upset as well. So he's on his way to town with the baler...AGAIN...
luckily the person we have leased to is running his baler this morning. They were both going to bale what is down then swath some more. I would think the dealer and helper might have put it together wrong. :???: :?
I know Mr. FH had some concerns about what it was going to cost the first time, let alone twice...

On to your bull, RA. Chances are you will really like the calves out of a black bull and your bally cows won't throw as much white with a black bull. I thought you were getting rid of your cows. I hope that changed.

How old is this bull compared to your Hereford bull? Did you buy this one, or lease him? Aren't you about done breeding your heifers? Good luck, hope you don't have any more breakdowns (of any kind) .

How are those boys of yours doing?

Sorry to hear about the baler troubles for sure! I hope it gets straightened out soon! Lord knows I know what that is like and how frustrating it is... :D .

I certainly don't want to get rid of the cows, just may have to to pay my last cow payment. I'm really trying to finangle(sp?) debt and may have it worked out. If it doesn't work out, I'll build right back and keep at it. I haven't applied to a town job yet, so things can be looked at it that way.... :D . ....and I'm still raising my boys, which is the main thing. It's hard to budget in a streak of bad luck on top of eveything though.... :D :D

My Hereford bull is completely shot. No heifers are bred and maybe bred one cow. Everything on both sides of his back half are shot. I'm now worried about the heifers I kept out of him doing it. I'm glad I never sold seed stock because of not knowing what his calves will be. He's 5 and this new bull is 2. I bought this new bull....I have to own them... :D . I need to sell the Hereford bull but don't feel like I should put him through it. I'd a just put him down already but he is just ok enough I'm trying to decide wether to just put him down, grind him into hamburger or sell him through the sale barn. I really probably should just go out and put him down right now. I can't wait to get another horned Hereford!

Boys are great! 6 and 1 now. I tried to post pics of my oldest boy helping me pick up hay and I had used up my monthly band width on photobucket already and it wouldn't let me. I won't be able to stay within the free guidelines lines so we are off again... :D . I'm playing with a new version of imageshack, so maybe I can try posting them again.

I want to see the rest of him...... :D

Mee too! I hope your bad luck is over. I am going to sell my bull this fall too. He's 4 and i have 3 calf crops from him with another due in 14'. He's pretty big and has almost as many heifers out'a him as cows that arent. Hate to see him go but it's time. Plus, i get to go shopping at bull sales next spring. A horned hereford may be in my future as well. We shall see. Keep your chin up and thanks for the pictures. It's a pleasure to know ya RA and even neater to call you a pal. :D

Thanks! Same back to you! Good Luck with your bull shopping! It'll be neat to see a horned Hereford out with your cows if you do that... :D

My plan is still the same---horned Hereford bulls on Angus/black cows and Brangus bulls on the baldies....just gotta get another Hereford. I thought I'd try this part of my plan out since it happened to come together easy. This bull's grandma is 18 and has a calf on her right now. I thought that might be good. Heck, it's fun just trying things.... :D

You sure that bull ain't a Brangus? He sure looks like there is something more than Angus in there. I'm not pickin' or criticizing, just axin'. :D

I like him until I get to his back legs, a little too posty to my eyes. I would prefer a bull that was a little sickle hocked over one that is too straight. He is a thick made boy though.

Main thing is too get your cows in calf at this point and I'm sure he'll get the job done for you. As Ol' Hay maker says "Good Luck".

Thought RA wrote that he had replaced his Hereford with an Angus somewhere in another thread. Brangus is mentioned in this one.

Only one guy that can set me straight. :???:

Since you guys obviously need a woman to clarify things for you      , here goes:
I think RA said "Angus" When he meat "Brangus". Cuz this bull is the same bull he pictured the head of when he said "Angus".

I thought his ears were set pretty low for a straight Angus. But that can and does happen......... :D

He sure looks mature for a 2-year old.

Good luck, RA. Get them cows bred!!!

Just put your old bull down. When he gets to the sale, he still has to ship out with other cattle on a truck and if he's wobbly, he has a good chance of going down in the truck. Do the humane thing. Unless he's pretty solid
when he walks, etc. I wouldn't put him on a truck. JMHO-If he's not
sound, I bet he won't bring much at the sale because those buying him know he has to get where he will be killed and they won't want to gamble on losing $$$, which they will if he dies on the truck. Make sense?

Anyhow. GOOD LUCK!

He's a reg. Brangus.... :D . I love Brangus bulls!

Thanks for the inputs! I don't know what to look for! I just know I loved watching him today.... :D . He's very quiet. I'll be brushing him in no time... :D .

Yeah, I'll put the bull down.

My baler broke in two this evening.... :D . I'm staying in bed for a month.... :D

I knew that! :D

Need pictures of the baler, now you can practice being a welder with that outfit you bought......... Maybe.....

Not knowing your business I'd refinance before I'd sell out just to start over.

Good debt is justifiable boats,4-wheelers toy's are not.

I know several debt free living people sure they get along but the road is a very slow one. Problem lies in when that neighboring land comes for sale you don't have enough equity or credit to buy. Everyone's goals are different but banks don't make money on paid off loans so I'm sure they'd work with a guy.

Around here that bull could be hauled to the packing plant for some salvage value.

Around this farm if the bull is still able to walk on a truck I would sell him to the local processor and I'm sure he would make a lot of hamburger - - - they would probably need to add fat to get the right ratio but he would still bring good money.

My thought of putting the Hereford bull down at home came from us not having a processing plant close by and I never thought that RA might be close to one. And it didn't sound to me like he could walk on a truck.

I do know that even hamburger can be tough........... :D

That is a handsome bull, RA. Hope he works out for you. We want pictures of when you will be brushing him. I bet it won't take you long!

Just keep in mind more people are hurt by 'pet' bulls than any other

Amen. Walk through your cows and even brush you bull, but never take both eyes off him and never get between him and a truck of a pipe fence or another solid object. Bulls have funny fuses and can go off in a heartbeat, regardless of how you treat them. Even just playing with ya can mash ya. I am not a brangus fan but he looks like a good bull. Hope he throws great calves. Sorry about your baler. Maybe try swath grazing this year! :D
