we went down to Koupal's sale on Wednesday. the sale was supposed to be on Monday but it was postponed due to weather. this was my first time attending their sale and was very impressed with their bulls.

i went with the hopes of picking up a couple cow making type bulls. i bought three that i think should do the job. all three are sons of
OCC Juneau 807J.

once again the sun is not out today, so these are not the best pictures.

They look to be the 'kind' Justin. I don't pay much attention
to EPD's anymore, but I will glance at them. I think you made
a good choice milk epd wise-I don't like anything over 20.
15-20 is the range I look for and that's where these are.

What are the cows these bulls are out of and how old are they?
Just curious.

Look good Justin...Look like they are in shape to go to work instead of some of those butcher fat ones that melt away...

And here I was expecting Herefords!

Nice bulls Justin, you can pick bulls for me anytime :D . Fall born bulls are nice since they've got a bit more age on them.

thanks for the comments. the fall bull is a much better looker than his picture indicates.

FH-the first bull is out of an OCC Great Plains daughter. the second is out of a Lead On cow. the third is out of a Emblazon 854E cow.
i agree with you on the milk epd. i like to stay pretty close to 15. we'll see how we get along with these. i think we'll be alright.

WR-i decided against the Hereford idea. maybe not for good, just for now

Nice bulls, I really like the second bull especially he has quite a quarter. I second what FH says about the milk epds. It is also nice to see a few bulls with the yw epd under 100. With those pedigrees they sould make for some very easy fleshing daughters in the future. Good job.

Man, some of you folks must have x-ray vision - how the heck can you tell how much condition they are carrying or quarter they have from these pictures? The last picture you can tell he has an ear tag, a head, 4 legs and a tail but that's about it. Maybe he has a white belt too :???:
I hope your bulls work out Justin and I recognize the challenge of taking pictures against the snow on a dull day.

Grassfarmer, you'd argue with a stump!

I like the 2nd bull the best. But bull #3's numbers match my liking a little more. I like Milk around 15 and WEPD about 40 with YEPD 75. All of them look like they have nice toplines, depth and aren't too fat. I like #2's feet and legs, but then again I do have x-ray vision. Nice undies everyone!   Cept' BMR! :???: Put some on please! :(

if, and thats a BIG if, the sun ever shines again :? i'll try and take some better pictures. i can see GF's point, but at the same time i knew i wasn't entering a photo taking contest. all three bulls have plenty of guts, and carrying plenty of muscle(IMHO), and are far from being overfed. i wish i didn't have to wait a year to see their calves. we'll see how they look when they get here, but my plan is to only keep heifers and maybe a bull or two out of these three bulls. good plan, bad plan.....time will tell.

If you've never had experience with Ohlde and Ohlde type cattle- you will find this to be normal- and if they are like some of the others I've seen and had experience with- they will come off the breeding season in as good or better condition than they started out...

I was just looking at my old bulls- that are fed only grass/alfalfa hay-and even with this rough winter they look like they are ready to butcher..

See I am the voice of experience. :D

I guess I'll be the one to stick my neck out and critique something.

I like the frozen eared bull the best, looks masculine and meaty. The last bull looks good too.

The first bull however, doesn't appear to have any muscle in his lower rump. He looks from that pic to fit the label of "cat-hammed" quite well. Just my opinion, but I don't like the bull.

How do you know he was frozen eared? maybe a coyote chewed it

Should be a cowmaker then if the maternal bull theory is right- eh ?
Which would go along with his mggs: Emulation EXT.....

Hey Justin, the Bulls look good. I was down at Koupla's a couple years ago and from what i saw the only thing better than the OCC Jueno sons were the daughters... I calved out close to 60 and there wasn't a bad udder on one of them.
