Texas Cattle Trichomoniasis Program Adopted:

Interstate Rules Effective April 1, 2009; In-State Rules Effective Jan. 1, 2010 Beginning April 1, 2009, breeding bulls entering Texas from any other state must be either 24 months of age or younger
and certified as a virgin, or be tested negative for cattle trichomoniasis within 30 days prior to entry. The entry
requirements are part of a regulatory package adopted by the commissioners for the Texas Animal Health Commission
(TAHC) February 24 to address trichomoniasis, a venereal disease of cattle that causes infertility and abortions, and
results in extended breeding seasons and diminished calf crops, which costs livestock producers valuable income. Cattle
trichomoniasis is not a human health issue. The second phase of the program, which will address in-state movement of
Texas breeding bulls, will go into effect January 1, 2010.

Also any bull that is sold at a sale barn will have to be test before it can be sold for a herd bull. It takes about a week to get it back and cost $100 for the test. Here is more about it:

All bulls and open cows without calves sell as weighups only, I think it went inefect July 1 2005 in SD. I know of one ranch with aropund 500 cows, they bought 2 year old bulls all the time in the fall of 05 they had less than 50 cows that breed back. They all had trich, the last time I tested a bull it was 18 months ago, I think it was only $45 I don't know obout bull brought into the state. I think it's the best in the longrun.

Yep-- Montana has had pretty much the same "virgin" bull or test Trich law for the last couple of years...

Man I guess we are just late for the party. :o Dose anyone have to do the Animal ID things now. From what I was told by the director of the animal Health Commission its pretty much dead here.

Thanks for posting the notice, Trinity! I wasn't aware of the new development. Here's some more on the subject:

If it just causes ONE gentleman with a hand full of cows to stop buying the first thing through the barm that has 4 legs, 2 testicles,[ 1 will work if it has a bit of size] and a sheath that has no cockelburrs, it might be the best thing ever to come to Texas

You're going to hurt NR's feelings, talking about his kind of outfit that way.

Never bought a weighup bull yet-harsh words from a customer of the Lloyd Used Bull Emporium lol. By the way I have two handfulls of cows Mr. Man lol. Justin feel free to chirp up lol.

I had our new bulls tested for everything by our vet when I picked them up. Even sent a hair sample to get tested to make sure they were free of curly calf. It only cost me $80 per bull to have all that done, but it is priceless because I have peace of mind.

We also had a heifer we traded a steer for tested last nov.
