It started tonight with the parade I'll post pics when I can find my USB cable. This is one of Canada's oldest rodeos-lots of memories. The world record saddle bronc ride was set here in 1974-Doug Vold on Transport of Franklin's. I've got to see some great broncs over the years Kingsway, Air Wolf, Blue Ridge, Blue Too. The Bullerama is tomorrow night and Ty is up Friday in the broncs-I get to go to three rodeos this weekend with him should be good deal.

A number of years ago Franklin's brought horses to the match at the Boy's Ranch at Sentinal Butte, North Dakota. That was the only place I ever got see them. I heard that this year Tom Reeves is going to have some horses there. Usually is good watching.

TY Murray put it best-he said when old Vernie asked him if he wanted to get on AirWolf he said "I'd rather get on a cougar Mr. Franklin' lol. They're getting a bit more domesticated but still not real nice in the chutes. When I was just a kid they bucked a sorrel mare called 'Popsicle' that wore a nose basket so she wiouldn't chew up the twisters. The rodeo committee has a great deal this year $25 for a three day pass-pretty reasonable I think. They've got 100 barrel racers entered-almost enough lol.

The boys in Novice Horse riding better have their hammer cocked-there's a girl entered up in it-not that anybody would tease them lol. No reason why girls wouldn't be good at saddle bronc most of them stay in better shape and have better balance.

My brother and I hitchhiked to the Meadow Lake rodeo in 1964 to ride bulls. Along with our rigging bags we carried sleeping bags. A clump of trees near the grounds were our "RV". I rode but didn't place. As luck would have it my brother picked up a cheque that got us down the road and paid our fees at the show in Battleford. There were some pretty good native hands and I think their names were either Morin or Risdale. Forty five years have gone by so my recollection of their names is a bit hazy lol. Turn your toes out Ty. The judges notice.

In 1964 Donny and Billy Morin were riding then and their Dad Emile was probably roping calves-Emile won the calf roping in Prince Albert when he was too blind to have a drivers licence lol. The Ridsdale would of been Rocky I'm guessing-I sure miss that outdoor rodeo on July 1st weekend-we used to get our report cards-hike up town to the parade then try and sneak into the rodeo and hide under the big outdoor stage where you were safe and dry away from the rain. Saw alot of rodeo from that perch.

Do you remember this character Gordon Alger-he is a former rodeo president and has lead the parade for as long as I can remember.
