The Big Sky Country doesn't have much sky today... This is not far from the coulee I found the last of my missing cows.....
I got them back toward the corrals- but because of the storm they will have to stay on the prairie another few days....

The bull calves are all happy to be tucked in with a bale...
These are the two I'm thinking of keeping for myself-the 830 tag- Lazy Bar B Old Gabe AAA #16742011 and the 5U tag Lazy Bar B Juanada Rito 06X AAA # 16741353

The 652 tag bull - Lazy Bar B Rito Lead On 05X- AAA 16741354

Some of the bull calves checking out the old bull....

Whitney Creek Bannon 730T - 15800329--plumb happy to be off the prairie- and be in the corral with a hay bale....
Yesterday all I had to do was open the trailer door- and he couldn't load himself faster...

It's been pointed out to me that it might be offensive to ask a US rancher how many cows they run.

No offense was meant by me asking. Just curious.

i don't think it is offensive, just some don't want to say. the question i hate is.."how many acres ya got?"

might even be more offensive to ask "how big was your gov't check? The one thats welfare but not called that.

i think most follow the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, when it comes to all those types of questions.

Well Hypocrit- I will tell you that the bulls go thru at least 3 or 4 culls starting from birth-up to the day they are gone- and depending on the year only 1 out of about 6- 10 of the bull prospects stay as bulls- the rest get steered sometime during the process....Some get culled during this postweaning process now if their attitudes and temperaments don't meet my expectations...(Altho this is a pretty quiet bunch)....

Come on down when the weather gets nice and walk around thru them and take a look at them...Altho some are already gone- and I'm waiting now for nicer weather to deliver another one...They definitely are not show stock- and they will never get trimmed or primped and grain pimped--but they do make good range bulls...

Sure like that Bannon bull OT. Try and stay warm.

Thanks PureCountry...It looks like the fall grazing in the early snowstorms hasn't affected him any-- but thats one of the things I like about his daughters--easy keepers...

Just after I took this picture- to satisfy my own curiousity- I walked over and put my measuring stick on him to see if he is still right on the borderline between 4 and 5 frame-- and he still is- just a hair under 56 inchs..

Thats where a couple of good dogs come in...After I found them I just sent Jud and Sam down to bring them out-- then got them headed for home with the dogs doing the work- and me in the cab of a warm pickup  ...

I'm not worried about getting mine out- as we will haul the rest out on Friday-- but a neighbor just called and asked if I could help him on Saturday get his out which are about 10 miles from the highway- and I don't think we can get trucks or trailers in to where they are with all the snow-- so that might take some cool trailing- altho the weather boys say we can expect a heat wave by then and temps near 20.. :D

Haymaker- you got any Texas Hill country for sale? These early winters make me think more and more every year of moving somewhere where the winters are a lot shorter....
