I can't say we really KNEW what we were doin either. LOL I grew up havin an uncle that was a home builder, and my folks helped him build two of his own houses over the years, then while in highschool my parents built their own home. When I say they built...I mean THEY....not a contractor, no cabinet makers, nothin. Mom and dad did it all themselves with the help of my older brothers, and what little help I was at that age. When it came time for us to do it, I said, why not??? It can't be that hard. We decided on a spot, and had the plans that I'd copied out of a magazine and adjusted here and there to suit what we wanted, then I made about 5 more copies of it down at the library, one for the plumbing layout, one for electrical layout, one for a/c and heat, one for figuring drywall and studs, etc....that way it wasn't all on one copy. Then we went to diggin and got the forms up for the foundation, with all the plumbing in the ground. We hired the concrete company to pour it and smooth it. Then the only other thing we paid for someone to do was the carpet layer. Everything else we done by ourselves as we could afford it. Everyone told us that buildin a house is the hardest thing on a marriage. They just don't really know how hard that is, until you build it yourself. LOL It took us 7 years building before we moved in. But it was well worth it.
LOL and after all that.....I still wanna redo an old house
