Some of you should recognize this pic? If so and you know the story....mind sharing?

JB I bet you do.

they all look like a fun place to live! the wife would NEVER run out of things for me to fix!

Would be for some serious "honey do" lists goin on in any of them. But it'd be so much fun!!!!

I always wanted to "redo" an old house. When it came time to start buildin our house, I cried buckets of tears because we weren't redoin but startin from the ground up. I'd found a lil old victorian lookin farm house for $2500 to be moved....delivery was included in that $2500 price.

One of these days I WILL get to redo an old house......but I now only want it to be a small one that can be a weekend/summer getaway.

This set of pictures is great. Hard to decide.....but I got mine narrowed down to one and have cast my vote :D

They'd all look good, framed, in an area together on a wall. IMO

Jersey, we have remodelled an old house and I wouldn't wish that
on ANYONE. We are so rural, we are at contractors mercy and it HASN'T
been fun, not one bit. But you could do way more yourself than
we could. We didn't know anything about this, and were sitting ducks
for anyone that came along. We finally found a fellow that has helped
us a bunch. He wasn't cheap, but he has just about finished up everything and he has overseen anything we had done while he was here.
Silly me, didn't take before and after pictures. We had basically a
dungeon in the basement, now it is a very nice living area. This house
now is bigger than we need. Nice for company, though. So if anyone
wants to visit, WE HAVE ROOM!!!!!!!

I can't say we really KNEW what we were doin either. LOL I grew up havin an uncle that was a home builder, and my folks helped him build two of his own houses over the years, then while in highschool my parents built their own home. When I say they built...I mean THEY....not a contractor, no cabinet makers, nothin. Mom and dad did it all themselves with the help of my older brothers, and what little help I was at that age. When it came time for us to do it, I said, why not??? It can't be that hard. We decided on a spot, and had the plans that I'd copied out of a magazine and adjusted here and there to suit what we wanted, then I made about 5 more copies of it down at the library, one for the plumbing layout, one for electrical layout, one for a/c and heat, one for figuring drywall and studs, etc....that way it wasn't all on one copy. Then we went to diggin and got the forms up for the foundation, with all the plumbing in the ground. We hired the concrete company to pour it and smooth it. Then the only other thing we paid for someone to do was the carpet layer. Everything else we done by ourselves as we could afford it. Everyone told us that buildin a house is the hardest thing on a marriage. They just don't really know how hard that is, until you build it yourself. LOL It took us 7 years building before we moved in. But it was well worth it.

LOL and after all that.....I still wanna redo an old house

I've done both....re-modeled an old one twice & built a new one and in the process of adding onto that " new" one now.

Building from the ground up is a party compared to a re-do.

I'd like to defend Workers / Contractors:
Personal I have lost $1,000,000 and Friends trying to "Help and or Be the Good Guy"...

One Friend (a Horseshoer) took my advice in the 60's - short of ready cash he was planning on going into major debit to put a a big house on this Land.

Instead he cut back and put a $7000. (60') cheep house up - - he put more money in to the Ranch - as money became available he/we did "Rock and Brick Work - and add on to the house.

In short he just sold 5 acers Ranch for 2 million $$$$$

I have been Thanked Many Times over the Years but that's all (More than I Wanted)

A Highly Prized Shoer he had a wainting list a mile long - the few times I needed someone else to take care of my Horse He was there the next day.

The Question was always - "How'd You Do That?"

-----------------

Another friend had "Bid's" to wire his house and was very up-set when I charged him $1100 more to wire t his whole Ranch.

5 years later (at the Cow Palace) he was sorry saying:
The Inspector had said this was the best job he had seen
Whe he had a Load of Cattle come in at 2AM he found a switch - all the corrals an chutes lit up - Plus plugs for Chippers/Coffee Pots/Heater
One night he came in for dinner and got to watching TV - at bed time he saw that all the "Barn lights were on" - - In the Wet Room (that was my idea) - he saw a switch (????) - when he hit it all the barn lights went Off.

Thats when he knew he'd under Paid me!

Lilly...your a girl after my own heart! Thats my dream to redo a character house. Gregs grandparents had this beautiful two story, wrap around deck...man I wanted that house, his Aunt and Uncle built a new house and TORE the old one down, grampa was heartbroken but not as much as I was when Grampa said he would have moved the house to our place for us if he knew how bad I wanted it

About a month ago the old catholic church in our town went for sale...I talked and talked trying to get greg to buy it and I'd make it into a house, hardwood floors, stained glass windows. Greg just did not get it
