With my wife being sick this winter and taking care of her and the kids. Haven't had a chance to go out and call any coyotes all winter. Today while waiting for lunch to get ready much to my surprise just out the window of the house stands mr wile e getting a drink from a puddle of melted snow. So I grab the rifle find some shells and grabbing some shoes just as I hear our 7 year old yell there are three of them. Now the pet hens are out in the yard doing some "grazing" as its nice out so this is an important mission now. I was excited to show my skills in front of the whole family right out the window. So I sneak out and around find my spot and go to blast the first one. He's stopped broadside at 100 yards or so. This is going to be easy so I guess I was woried about coyote number two cause didn't draw a single hair when I fired. He darts sideways and out of safe shooting lane. So I move to number two he's loping straight away at 150 should be another easy shot. You guessed it another miss. Now there isn't any fur in site but I guess I scared them off anyway. Now to add insult to injury the three year old little girl asked as I come back in with my tail between my legs "what happened? You missed all of them!!!" I'm blaming it on the scope being sited in. At least we had a little excitement today. Maybe next time.

Shucks. You could have been a hero, instead of winding up with zero.

I guess I will need a bayonet as well.

3M's and my gun must have been sitting side by side as I missed a couple of easy shots the other day.

I need Hayguy to come help me sight it in. :D :D

are you SURE it's the gun/scope

Nope definently the trigger man in my case. I have never been able to keep my wits about me when shooting at coyotes consistantly. My dad is the best shot with a rifle of anyone I have ever met. Only a little has rubbed off on me. I have shot tons of prairie dogs over 400 yards so I know I can do it but the coyotes just make me lose concentration. I am more of an instinct shooter and am better when armed with a shotgun. But hey I'm not going to stop trying. It's to much fun.

If anyone comes along and says they haven't missed a 'yote while shooting a rifle "freehand" at 100 yards or more, haven't been around many at all.

The yotes' generally don't stand still long enough for us to find a suitable rifle rest.

There was 2 walking across a clearing last year and I told my buddy I was going to shoot the one on the left........ After the one on the right fell my spotter asked what had happened.....

I told him I changed my mind. The one on the right was bigger.

We both laughed.......

Well the bright side is that they won't be so nervous next time they hear a
BANG. You can kinda condition them against flinching when you shoot.

Don't ask me how I know.

Once when my boys were much younger, their granddad & I took them out to shoot a few clay pigeons. He was using his nice over/under 12 gauge, while I was tossing them with a hand thrower. They were shooting a cheap single shot 20 gauge. The boys didn't do too badly, hitting several targets, while granddad missed every time. He wanted to see how the 20 gauge he had given them felt and asked them if it would be alright to try it out. The youngest replied, "I don't think it will do any good, Grandpa." Startled, we both laughed at the honestly of a young kid!

Last fall I had the absolute worst. I picked my daughter up from school and went to check water at my rented place. It was just sundown so I decided to take a dirt trail home just to scout for deer. A couple miles from home I saw a pretty good buck but no time to give him a try but that got my eyes on deer. I was turning both ways looking when I got to the road. My neighbor had baled some CRP and I noticed something on a bale at the far end but I was looking for deer. I figured when I got there it would be 3 pheasants lined up. I kept driving and looking for deer until I got there and then I started laughing. I knew John had hunters during the weekend and there was a coyote draped across the bale closest to the road. Ha Ha, thats pretty funny so just to get a better look I stick the gun out the window with the scope on 9. That is when that coyote picked his head up and I didn't have a shell in the chamber!!!!!!!!!! As he jumped off the bale and I tried to get out so I could get a shot I hit the horn just to make sure he was actually running when he cleared the back side of the bale. It would have been the easiest shot on a coyote I had ever had instead I turned it into a kneeling shot with him running hard quartering away at over 150. Needless to say I missed, twice.

Maybe it wasn't the rifle.

Drilled a coyote this morning, It wasn't shooting a foot wide today. :D :D

Didja skin 'em there Pilgrim?

Guy posted on another site I check out that he sent 10 coyotes and a beaver to the fur sale in February and recieved a cheque for just over $1000.00. Wish I would have streched more than the 4 I bothered with.

Not prime fur anymore.

I did hear coyotes are worth money but we were warm earlier and they usually start to rub.

I sold a couple of dogs over the weekend. The pup was shot in November, and the adult, I got in January. Not skinned, the adult was $10, said she had mange, and the pup was $15. I have heard of guys around here getting $100 for them a month ago.
