We have been fighting a real war against prairie dogs. In spite of fairly intense pressure, they just kept coming. I think we had about 20 towns of varying size on the place last fall.

Seems we could get about 90% of them and then they would come back. Using Rozol, which is now approved for prairie dogs, and keeping after them, we had them down to an isolated burrow here and there.

We bought some gas bombs which were intended for gophers and they seemed to do the job except they are expensive and rather small.

Read the list of ingredients which include sodium nitrate (available at the fertilizer store), powdered sulfur and charcoal (used barbeque briquets) and made our own gassers which are 1 1/4" thick and about four inches long. They have about 5 times the power of the gopher bombs.

We haven't seen a single prairie dog for a few weeks.

(If you try this, be careful. The ingredients listed are the same as gunpowder except in different proportions. Don't do it anywhere a building might get burned down.) It took quite a while fooling around before we could do it safely.

If you smoke, quit before you start messing with this stuff.

Was channel surfing the other night, and stopped for a bit on Animal Planet. They were doing a special on how wonderful Prairie Dogs were! They showed a dog town that looked almost like a putting green! Also, low and behold, there was a nice tame Antelope and a Buffalo standing beside one of the ground rats, eating the lush green grass. I don't know how I ever missed seeing something like that before :???: I wonder if this was filmed on someones well-watered, fertilized lawn, maybe around the liberal mecca of Boulder?

I'm sure you will have a few people in the area like the ones here. I encourage responcible deer hunting with the selected hunters being required to take the max number of does each year but we have so many transplanted people from the city who LOVE BAMBI and they set up feeding stations in their backyards and the deer thrive!!!

Just wait till some of the neighbors get together and start taking care of the P dogs.
