He's a Tea Party guy who says the states can/should take care of themselves, what if he takes the Fed help?
Flip flopper?
Mike said:As long as the residents of Texas send 20%-30% of their paychecks to the Fed, he has every right and is obligated to apply for assistance.
In fact, he applied in April of this year in anticipation of the fires happening right now but was turned down. How's that for forethought?

Weren't you all the same ones that were screaming about all the Federal Disaster aid/funding that was sent to New Orleans after Katrina? :???:
To me- I have to agree with Jingo2...Perry looks like a hypocrit with all his rants and rhetoric about doing away with federal aid programs and cutting federal spendings- and not needing the federal government, leaving it to the states- even so far as talking about Texas seceding from the union-- but then is the first in line with his hand out wanting his fair share out of the government aid trough..... :lol:

when will liberals ever understand?
the Tea party has never advocated shutting down the entire federal government.. we are just sick of the out of control spending...
the waste, the abuse, the stupid programs and projects..
had a few of the wasteful projects been scrapped there would be money to set aside for disasters..
it isn't an all or nothing proposition.. it is a compromise, spend on what is needed .. fund what is needed.. but do not waste it...
if you loosen the disaster fund budget just tighten another.. it really isn't that difficult.. families, municipalities, counties and states do it all the time..
is it me or are liberals to simple minded to understand the complex issues of a budget?

But what is wasteful to some- some may consider vitally important...
Kind of like old Perry's calling for spending cuts and cutting wasteful programs--- but then whining, crying and screaming bloody murder when they cut out his homestate's Space Shuttle Program-- which I, like many of the scientists involved, believe has outlived its usefulness[/b]- and that its time to move on toward other programs... :???: :roll:

Whining? Crying? Screaming? You wouldn't be lying would you? Would you like to see his statement?
Meanwhile, we pay the Soviet's to shuttle our astronauts to the space station, and then pick them up. :roll:
ABC News totally distorts Bush administration space policy
This post has nothing to do with United States space policy or budget dollars, it has to do with ABC News totally distorting the facts when it comes to the Bush administration's space policy after the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003.
When referencing Gov. Rick Perry's (Texas) statement about the Obama administration "leaving American astronauts with no alternative but to hitchhike into space" ABC's The Note wrote it was the Bush administration's decisions to end the Space Shuttle program by 2010.
Perry, who appears to be laying the groundwork to enter the 2012 presidential race, did not mention President George W. Bush's role in the end of the space shuttle era. In 2004 at a speech at NASA headquarters, Bush laid out what the White House called his "New Vision For Space Exploration," which called for the retirement of the space shuttle.
Back then, Bush called for the space shuttle to be taken out of service in 2010.
What a way to tell only 20 percent of the story! It's a lie by omission. In reality, the Bush administration – after an extensive review of the Space Shuttle program after the Columbia disaster – announced a new vision in Jan. 2004. The Vision for Space Exploration (PDF) NASA document includes the following specific goals and objectives.
The fundamental goal of this vision is to advance U.S. scientific, security, and economic interests through a robust space exploration program. In support of this goal, the United States will:
■Implement a sustained and affordable human and robotic program to explore the solar system and beyond;
■Extend human presence across the solar system, starting with a human return to the Moon by the year 2020, in preparation for human exploration of Mars and other destinations;
■Develop the innovative technologies, knowledge, and infrastructures both to explore and to support decisions about the destinations for human exploration; and
■Promote international and commercial participation in exploration to further U.S. scientific, security, and economic interests
As for the Space Shuttle…
■Focus use of the Space Shuttle to complete assembly of the International Space Station; and
■Retire the Space Shuttle as soon as assembly of the International Space Station is completed, planned for the end of this decade;
As for the International Space Station (ISS)…
■Complete assembly of the International Space Station, including the U.S. components that support U.S. space exploration goals and those provided by foreign partners, planned for the end of this decade;
■Focus U.S. research and use of the International Space Station on supporting space exploration goals, with emphasis on understanding how the space environment affects astronaut health and capabilities and developing countermeasures; and
■Conduct International Space Station activities in a manner consistent with U.S. obligations contained in the agreements between the United States and other partners in the International Space Station.
The plan did require we "acquire" crew transportation services to the ISS. But it also gave birth to the Constellation program that would develop rockets, a crew module and lunar explorer vehicle. We would be on the moon between 2015 and 2020.
President Obama officially killed the Constellation program in October 2010 after claiming it was over budget and behind schedule. That certainly may be the case, but ABC should immediately revise their story to include the facts. By telling barely a half-truth, it breeds ignorant comments from readers…
- Well of course he didn't mention GWB. Facts are so pesky.
- Perry completely ignores that President Bush started the demise of the means for us to take men into space on the advice and careful research by his space advisors. But the truth is an is sometime Perry is used to ignoring.
- so It was not Obama, but GWB who put an end to the shuttle. Let's face it, little facts just do not matter.
On January 14, 2004, President Bush gave a speech in which he announced "a new focus and vision for future exploration."
The elements of that speech were:
•Complete the assembly of the International Space Station (ISS) by 2010, then retire the Shuttle from service.
•"... Develop and test a new spacecraft, the Crew Exploration Vehicle, by 2008, and to conduct the first manned mission no later than 2014." The CEV would be used to ferry astronauts first to the ISS, and later to "beyond our orbit to other worlds."
•"... Return to the moon by 2020, as the launching point for missions beyond."
•"With the experience and knowledge gained on the moon, we will then be ready to take the next steps of space exploration: human missions to Mars and to worlds beyond."[/quote]
Perry slams Obama for closing down NASA's space shuttle program
By Alicia M. Cohn - 07/21/11 04:15 PM ET
Texas Gov. Rick Perry slammed the Obama administration on Thursday following the conclusion of NASA's final space shuttle flight.
The Obama administration has left "American astronauts with no alternative but to hitchhike into space," Perry said in a press release.
"The Obama administration continues to lead federal agencies and programs astray," Perry said, pushing for the administration to define its vision of NASA's mission and return to what he called the agency's "core purpose of manned space exploration."
The Space Shuttle Atlantis landed safely at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida early on Thursday morning, marking the end of almost 30 years of NASA space shuttle flights.
Republicans have criticized the Obama administration for closing the program, though the decision to retire the space shuttles was originally made under the administration of former President George W. Bush in 2004.
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a statement Thursday following the landing of Atlantis that NASA would "continue the grand tradition of exploration" following the conclusion of the space shuttle program.
"This final shuttle flight marks the end of an era, but today, we recommit ourselves to continuing human spaceflight and taking the necessary and difficult steps to ensure America's leadership in human spaceflight for years to come," Bolden said.
Perry criticized the lack of a clear path forward for NASA.
"Unfortunately, with the final landing of the Shuttle Atlantis and no indication of plans for future missions, this administration has set a significantly different milestone by shutting down our nation's legacy of leadership in human spaceflight and exploration," Perry said.
NASA is a major employer in Houston, thanks to the presence of Johnson Space Center. However, Perry could also be ramping up his criticism of Obama ahead of a rumored presidential bid.
Perry, the longest-serving governor in the U.S., is reportedly considering running for the Republican nomination for president in 2012.
"The Obama administration continues to lead federal agencies and programs astray," Perry said, pushing for the administration to define its vision of NASA's mission and return to what he called the agency's "core purpose of manned space exploration."

If I planned on getting a new truck.. and a new trailer... and those plans changed because the Obama economy is in the toilet.. would I be stupid enough to scrap a perfectly good truck and trailer without a replacement, or the cash to get a new truck and trailer..
or would I get even stupider,, and start making payments on a new custom trailer.. knowing I scrapped my truck, and have nothing to tow the trailer being built with????.. ,..
If I was Obama that would be about what I would do, scrap the truck, order a custom built trailer, knowing I have no plans or money for a new truck..
But it isn't a problem, I can let the trailer sit, (while I make payments) and hitch a ride with Tex.. and maybe someday when the trailer is finished, OT and Jingo will help me tow it to space..
On 11 October 2010, with the cancellation of the Constellation Program, the Ares program ended and at that time the Orion vehicle was planned to be launched on top of an alternative, cheaper Space Launch System to the Ares series.
