These folks put up hay for us this summer. They raised the grand champion heifer and won a very nice buckle.

Long time friends who had the grand champion steer. We rode together to the festivities last evening and enjoyed a good visit.

During the night we received a little over an inch of rain. Since we couldn't hay, Sunflower and I took out an old fence that was no longer needed.

My son is designing a meat cooker.
Theinventor.jpg

The inventor. When he was just a kid, we heard on the radio that if you sent in your name and address, you would receive a free "inventor's kit." He was all excited and submitted the proper requirements. He could hardly wait to get the "inventor's kit" in the mail, because I had told him it would probably include a screw driver, a pair of pliers, and other useful tools for an aspiring inventor. Imagine his disappointment when all he received was paperwork to get new inventions patented. :?

Even the innards look grate.

i should post a picture of my cobbled together meat cooker. Then everybody could see the difference between a craftsman like Will and a cowboy with a welder like BMr.

I wish I had metal talent like your son. Looks pretty good. I bet you can't wait to have an ANGUS steak grilled on it.

Beef...it's what for dinner! Yur picture story fits all together now...lol Glad ya got a little shower,,we did too...again! We'll never get our hay up at this rate..lol Lookin Good over west! Thanks

Those are some pretty good looking yearlings heifers you got there. I would love to have a load of them at home. Thats a pretty cool looking meat cooker your son is one hell of a welder.

Thanks for the Spearhead update Soapweed. Will should build those cookers en-masse and sell them at Home Depot. Made in USA and outsell the Chinese.

Good pictures Soap! Not much Sunflower can't do, it looks like. Do you run radials on your tractors? Do you ever let the air down so they look sort of squishy? We run maybe 12 lbs in the rake tractor, 14 to 16 in the baler tractors. Maybe your hayground is smoother than most of ours.....except putting up hay millet is usually smooth sailing with the exception of the occasional badger hole.

The lineman pic reminds me of an incidence that happened here last year. A young farmer ( and friend of mine) past another neighbor (also a friend) in the early morning one day each waving to one another. Just before nightfall, the neighbor saw the pickup of the young farmer way out in the field. He thought he'd stop and talk. When he got out to where the truck was parked he yelled around but could not find the other farmer. He eventually heard the young farmer's muffled yells. The young man had tried to fix a broken tile and became stuck in the hole upside down with just his feet sticking out. He was unable to get himself back out being upside down. He had been in the hole most of the day upside down. He said he was getting ready to give up when the neighbor found him. The neighbor was able to pull the young farmer out of the hole and save him. Looking at the pic sent small chills up my arms.

nice tour, Soap. i wish i had 1/10th the talent your son has. i bet he has forgot more about welding and metal work than i'll ever know. Sunflower and the ipod looks familair. when my wife gets a chance to get away from the kids and rake for me, she always has two little white cords hanging from her ears. whatever she listens to, must be more enjoyable than the sound of an old IH 666 diesel tractor. :)
