There are so many fires not so far from us, that I wouldn't know where all this smoke is coming from. Here are a few of them.

Bundry Railroad (Billings District, Bureau of Land Management): 32,000 acres at 10 percent contained. This fire is eight miles northeast of Warden and is burning in timber, grass and sage. Structures remain threatened and evacuations remain in effect. Very active fire behavior with runs to the north and northeast were observed.

Pine Ridge Complex (Southern Land Office, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation): 84,000 acres and 15 percent contained. This complex, comprised of five fires, is south of Pompeys Pillar and is burning in sagebrush and agricultural lands. Evacuations are in effect, Numerous residences, ranches, rangeland, agricultural crops, timber, powerlines, petroleum pipelines and a rest area are threatened. Extreme fire behavior with running and spotting was reported.

Saunders (Southern Land Office, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation): This fire was contained at 3,175 acres.
Horton-Hay (Eastern Land Office, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation): 17,300 acres at unknown percent contained. This fire is 35 miles southwest of Miles City and is burning in ponderosa pine, grass and sagebrush. Spotting and running were reported.
Watt Draw (Miles City District, Bureau of Land Management): 5,100 acres at 20 percent contained. This fire is 35 miles southeast of Ashland and is burning in grass, timber and sagebrush. Three residences, outbuildings and grazing allotments are threatened. Extreme fire behavior with isolated torching, running and spotting was observed.

Shane Ridge (Southern Land Office, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation): 806 acres at 75 percent contained. This fire is 10 miles southeast of Columbus and is burning in timber, grass, and understory. Minimal fire behavior was observed.

Iron Jaw (Eastern Land Office, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation): 165 acres at 80 percent contained. This fire is 15 miles southwest of Miles City and is burning in timber and grass. No further information was received.
NEW King Mountain (Miles City District, Bureau of Land Management): 800 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is five miles south of Ashland and is burning in grass and understory. Difficult terrain is hampering containment. Isolated torching and running were reported.
NEW Sage (North Cheyenne Agency, Bureau of Indian Affairs): 903 acres at 80 percent contained. This fire is 2 miles northwest of Ashland and is burning in timber, grass and understory. Minimal fire behavior was reported.
NEW Spring Creek (Eastern Land Office, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation): 543 acres at unknown percent contained. This fire is 27 miles southwest of Miles City. No further information was received.

Thorne Divide Complex (Crook County): 5,000 acres at 10 percent contained. This fire is 5 miles south of Devils Tower National Monument and is burning in timber and grass. Numerous residences, powerlines and the National Monument are threatened. Highway 14 has been closed. Torching and long range spotting were observed.
NEW Buffalo Creek Complex (Wyoming State Forestry (CPC Area): 21,000 acres at 40 percent contained. This fire is 3 miles north of Lelter and is burning in grass and sage. Numerous residences, ranches and powerlines are threatened. Extreme fire behavior with running, spotting and fire whirls was reported.
