Welll, the Bundy fire aka Railroad Creek fire has crossed the Bundy road, which is the dirt road going by our neighbor's house...the pics are posted in FIRE!!! Soooo the fire is now heading our way because the wind has changed to north-northwest. sw and I were looking at a line of fire, it almost looked like a living thing, searching out fuel in the opposite direction of the wind. Hopefully it will give up and burn itself out on already burned land.

Tap, it is clearing up enough around here I can start to see, the smoke is heading your way now, we been driving with headlights on since mid afternoon, the prevailing winds are usually from the west/northwest, they started coming from the southeast, driving that fire (Bundy/Railroad) back into places that it missed in the first time around and towards us. Have you ever smelled a pair of fresh smoked, Indian tanned gloves? That is what I feel like right now. I think it is time for a quick burger, some shut eye and get ready for the morning, it may come way too quick. Isn't it time to go fishing? I heard the Salmon catch is going pretty well in Alaska.

Have you ever been in a position that you wished you could help someone, but know it is not practical? I would like to say that I could help you guys somehow, if it is needed. I bet your gut says that things will be ok, but those fires are so big, that I imagine anything is possible. How many miles would you say that the fire is from being on your outfit?

I do think that if I understand you right, tomorrow should be a better day as a cold front, if you can call it that, will shift the winds around to the NW, and make the fire go away from you.

When we were on the small fire here the other day, 600 acres they say, a neighbor said he wanted to go up on a hill so he could see back NW to our direction. I said to him goodluck, as the whole sky was so full of smoke that you couldn't see 2 miles in a couple hours from then. At that time, we had been so busy that I thought it was coming from the one at Columbus. I hadn't heard about your fire, or those by Miles City till the next day.

We are thinking of you here sw and Hanta Yo, and MCG too. A former classmate of mine has to be near the fire by Devils Tower WY. I have been wondering how he is faring in that fire. 13,700 ac. at last report. He is PRCA bulldogger Birch Negaard. I hope they are getting by ok too.

Good Luck to all you guys fighting fire. not a good time to be away from home. It is really cooling off nice here tonight so lets hope that helps with the fires. Thinking of you all.

I wish you were right, Tap, going NW is going straight at us. Got the dozer on the trailer, called the firefighters, they told us to hold on til tomorrow. We can see bright orange to the SE of us

I meant the winds are supposed to come from the NW, and push to the SE Hanta Yo. Even if I am still mixed up, we're hoping for the best for you all.

The forecast for fire weather is not good-- Besides the 90-100 degree heat, they are predicting the wind to come up this afternoon with gusts to 40 mph in some areas---that can really move a fire... :(

I haven't heard of any major fires in my area- but with the spring growth I'm sure we will get them...My son watched a couple little storms follow the Missouri last night - he said no rain- lots of lightning....

Morning everyone!

I hope this finds you all safe. Lazy Ace just returned from fighting more fires this morning, all started by dry lightning. There are still a couple burning. I'm glad this dry lightning missed you, Liberty Belle and Tap.

Take care everyone---

Cheers---

TTB

or Possible.
I am sure others here feel the same as I do ....wanting to help but there is nothing we can do ......other than pray.

Merciful Father in heaven, look down in Your love upon all those who are facing and fighting the ravages of fire and flame. Grant them the courage and skills to carry out their duties well and safely. When they must go into the face of danger, be by their side in the smoke and flames. Watch over their families, ever reminding them that they are in Your loving care. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Yup, and thank you, Tap for your concern  the winds are now coming out of the NW, blowing it away from us (for now) we may still end up helping neighbors. It's funny how ranches all hook up together in the middle of nowhere, and it ends up not very far from here as the crow flies. We hope no more fires in your area, and TTB's. The spirit instilled in ranchers has not gone away, because of that spirit we will fight, win, and move on :)

I spoke too soon...That little lightning storm apparently set off a bunch of fires in the breaks last night- they are finding more today as the wind comes up...
When I look out my south window it looks like a big wall of stormclouds, but it is smoke rolling up from several fires about 30-70 miles south in the Missouri breaks....They have not located all yet- some may be south of the Missouri....

Winds are blowing 25-30 now- but they are predicting gusts of 40 by the afternoon... Temp is only 94 so far today... Not good weather to fight a fire....

Weather boys here say this is the longest hot streak (days above 90 degrees) since 1958- and with the next 7 days predicted hot, we could start sitting new records...And with no moisture, the whole country will be burning up...

Yep OT, that wall of smoke looks pretty impressive from here south of Malta too. Looks like there are 3 fires right on the CMR by the UL bend. They are about 30 miles south of me but look big from here. Really to rough and remote to get any machinery into them. At least they won't be affecting any populated areas for awhile. Sounds like they are forecasting a possibilty of more dry ones tomorrow. Wow it doesn't get any drier than it is around here now. Hope you guys in southern MT are staying safe. Sure would be wonderful to get some rain so that we could relax a little. Nothing makes a person more anxious than the sight of dry lightening moving your direction. Kind of a helpless feeling. Anyway wishing everyone that is battling fires good luck.

mtrancher- A couple of the fires are straight south of me on the north side of the river- one I heard was on 6th point of Fort Peck Lake in the area of the Pines Rec area--- but I hear there may be some big ones on the south side...

Like you say- a lot of that is too rough of country to get into with equipment...

Already affecting me tho- the helicopters flying over the house this afternoon kept waking me from my afternoon nap   Glad I retired-10 years ago that would have been me flying around in that hot noisy chopper....

Only got to 96 today.....

County Firewarden called me this morning-I guess those choppers were ferrying in smoke jumpers to the biggest fire in northern Garfield county on the south side of the Missouri...He said he sent one truck from up here to help until they get a 200 man Indian firefighting crew in there today....Look out Hell Creek Bar when our crew gets relieved

Pretty heavy dew last night as I got my rear wet when I sat down on the swather seat at 5AM--So this morning I could see no smoke, until about 10AM it started puffing and billowing again as the breeze picked up- quite impressive since the fires must be about 60 miles south of me...

Best news- finished swathing...Partner has about 40 acres to bale and we'll be done...Bales might set there awhile before they get stacked- at least until cooler weather or a good rain...

Hey Tap,
You been fighting fire this morning? We didn't have any right here, but I spent the predawn hours sitting on the hill above the place watching for something to flare up close by us. Lots of lightening, lots of fire activity on the radio, lots more fires, but none were close to us this time. How did you fare?
