This is what happens when a Brahma/JerseyX bucking bull has carnal knowledge of my daughters 4H champeen red angus heifer lol. There was a bit of friction between Megan the heifer owner and Ty the bull owner when this bundle of joy arrived-especially when he tried to claim a half interest. Kind of an ugly bred heifer but she wintered ok and looks to have a tidy udder-like any other ugly crossbred she'll probably last till her teens. She's standing in a spot we bale grazed a couple years ago.

I had a few red angus/brown swiss cows that looked just like that. Bred black angus they had wee little light brown calves that grew like crazy and ended up jet black and fancy.
They were good quiet cows but they'd eat your breakfast at calving. Bet that one of yours will be the same

Does anyone know what happened to the Tarentaise breed? Seems like you used to hear more about them- or did they finally manage to screw them up like most other breeds?

They finally managed to get them wilder than elk and they all escaped! I believe there are some around. But they arent near as popular as they were in the 80's. Atleast in this country.

They are still around, unfortunately not as many registered breeders today as in days gone by. I don't think the cattle have been screwed up at all, in that regard their lack of popularity has been a blessing. They were never big on the show circuit, never a player in the frame race, never chased after the extreme EPD's, etc. Just moderate size, hardy cattle, ultra feminine cows and super masculine bulls just like when they brought them down off the mountain in France. Less milk and more growth now, with hardly any increase in birth weights, according to the guru's at Colorado State who did the analysis for the last round of EPD's.

NR-- you need to throw in a little "Bodacious" or other big name bucker to the pot-- and it looks like you may really end up with a good "oops"....

As far as Tarentaise- there seem to be fewer around here anymore- altho I had a local fella tell me the other day that a guy in the western part of Montana is marketing "black" tarentaise and tarentaise/angus composite bulls...
He was talking about going over and looking at them- but don't think he made it yet because of seeding....

I talked to a MT rancher at the NWS a couple of years ago that had a pen of full brothers from a flush to Emblazon. I bet some of you MT guys know who I'm talking about.

He was trying to sell them but if he didn't he said he would take them home for use on his Tarentaise cross commercial cows. He said those cows were pretty much on their own and he would go look at them once in awhile. He had three daughters and they would work the calves before they went back to school in the fall. I would of loved to talk to him some more but it was colder then a witches breast that day. What he told me sort of peaked my interest in the breed.
