A word of caution here.

To really 'TRY' a mineral would take at least a year. You can't buy a
few bags and put it out and expect to see any difference.

The other way to know if you are buying the right mineral, is to
talk to other ranchers in your area, OR have a knowledgeable mineral
person that will help you and guide you to the right product.

When my father decides it's time for a new mineral program here it is by one or both of the two ways you mentioned. We then use the mineral for the year and try and track any new problems or lack of problems we see. The condition of the cattle and how much they use is also tracked. How they look visually is also watched.
