Today, about 120 combines gathered on a farm about 25 miles from our place and harvested 160 acre of soybeans in 11min. 43.59 seconds, narrowly missing setting a new record for 160 acres harvested.

There was a huge crowd (well over 1000) on hand to watch and later participate in the auctioning off of the crop to raise money for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The goal was to raise $200,000, which would be matched 4:1 by the federal government. All crop inputs and harvest costs were donated.

The video below gives a good look at how it went down. You will see everything from old to the very newest iron in the field.

Here is another video shot from a lift cage. It gives a pretty cool view of the action. Reports of about 2500 spectators and 120 combines.

There were several plug-ups due to the soybean straw being quite green yet. That plus a brand new CIH never made it off the starting line and a new Challenger had terminal troubles just a few yards into its run. Not their finest moment!

The yield monitors were sitting at about 50 bu/acre. 160 acres x 60=8000 bushels of soys harvested in a little under 12 minutes.

All in all it was a great charity/fundraiser for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank with the beans being auctioned off by the bushel or truckload and all proceeds going to the cause.

And I thought we were doing good - - - can't start cutting till about noon but getting about 100 acres a day. If the weather keeps up we will be about done with beans before we get a good start on corn.

9500 was down for one day and part of another - - -Air conditioner condensor let go and plugged the hydrolic cooler. Back up and going by about 2:30 PM this afternoon. It would have been quicker but we tried to get it fixed - - - - to far gone so we bought a new condensor ( with hydrolic cooler made together to cost more)

We don't have enough trucks to keep up with both combines in corn unless we are very close to the dryer but it sure is fun to watch 100" of field get eaten away with each round ( both combines ) in beans!
