Re: Goliad County Farm Bureau to Host R-CALF USA CEO Bill Bullard

at Goliad Elementary School, 5 p.m. CDT, Sunday, Oct. 9

R-CALF USA CEO Bill Bullard is a featured after-dinner speaker at the Goliad County Farm Bureau's 2005 convention, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Goliad elementary school. A Q&A session will follow.

Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Cost for current members is $1, and $6.50 for non-members.

On March 2, the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana granted R-CALF USA's request for a preliminary injunction that halted implementation of the USDA's Final Rule, which was scheduled to take effect on March 7 and reopen the Canadian border to live cattle and additional beef products. On March 3, the U.S. Senate voted 52-46 to overturn USDA's Final Rule, but the U.S. House of Representatives did not follow suit.

On July 14, a three-judge panel for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order that reversed the preliminary injunction, which reopened the Canadian border. Canadian cattle began arriving in the U.S. on July 18.

On Sept. 8, R-CALF USA attorneys filed with the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals a petition for a rehearing before the full appellate court. (Please take time to add other activities that are appropriate.) On Sept. 15, attorneys general for six states filed a 'friend-of-the-court' brief in support of a rehearing. Also, on Sept. 21, 23 organizations filed another 'friend-of-the-court' brief to support R-CALF USA's petition.

R-CALF USA also works on other issues that affect independent U.S. cattle producers, such as country-of-origin labeling, livestock price reporting, captive supplies and packer ownership of livestock, as well as various trade agreements.
