I like a 70 to 75 foot 5/16 poly rope myself. The extra length gives you that much more reach and a bigger bubble when you have a really wild and fighting cow or bull on the end of it. I've had to rope big slick bulls before that would't let me get close enough to rope them even with a rope that long until all the dogs were hanging on their heads. You can always shorten up with a long rope when you go to the branding trap. I ride alot of green colts and spoiled horses and the longer rope just gives me that much more time to try to straighten out the wrecks when and if they happen. I really like a reata to brand with if I'm riding a little better kind of horse. A guy can throw some really neat shots with one and your distance is better than with any other kind of rope I've ever used. I had an 88 footer once. It was a handful but it really threw nice.
