It's been an exciting week in our little neighborhood first with the hail storm and then uncovering the biggest marijuana grow op in Alberta history. This grow up was 2.5 miles from me and I passed the place every time I went to check some of my cows on pasture. Always said this was a good grass growing area :lol: :lol: :shock: Just shows you never know what's going on behind closed doors.

RECORD BUST NEAR RIMBEY (AUG 12) -- IT COULD BE THE BIGGEST BUST OF ITS KIND IN ALBERTA. A HUGE MARIJUANA GROW OP HAS BEEN UNCOVERED AT AN A HOG BARN WEST OF RIMBEY. POLICE RAIDED THE FARM MONDAY, DISCOVERING 23 HUNDRED POT PLANTS, AND THEY BELIEVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF PLANTS HAD ALREADY BEEN HARVESTED. THAT TOPS PREVIOUS BIG BUSTS AROUND THE PROVINCE OF AROUND 1 THOUSAND PLANTS. RCMP SERGEANT PATRICK WEBB SAYS THE RIMBEY OPERATION WAS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING OVER 1.1 MILLION JOINTS. MOUNTIES WERE INVESTIGATING REPORT OF ELECTRICTY THEFT WHEN THEY FOUND THE GROW OP. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ARRESTS AS YET, BUT RCMP ARE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A 28 YEAR OLD RED DEER MAN. TWO HOMES IN RED DEER WERE SEARCHED TUESDAY AS PART OF THE INVESTIGATION.

Seriously though, rural areas are not free of crime. A year ago, a friend of mine was coming out of the mountains after checking on some cows on a forest permit...he was heading down the county road when he noticed something in the middle of the road. As he got closer he realized it was a 55 gallon barrel and it was smoking. He stopped to take a closer look & put out the lingering fire when he made a grizzly discovery, a burned human body in the barrel. Turned out to be a women who had been reported missing from a small local town just the night before. No arrests have been made.

The second incident was closer to my neck of the woods (too close). A man who lived just about 5 miles west of me had returned home from grocery shopping when he realized someone had broken in. He called a friend of his and said he thought someone had broken in and that he was going to take his dirt bike and follow some tracks that led away from his house. He's hasn't been heard from since. The friend he called, later reported the incident when he didn't call back. The resulting search of the area found no trace of him. The only thing found was a blood covered vest which was identified as his and DNA testing proved the blood to be his also. Then about 5 weeks later or so a family camping at a trailhead 3 miles due east of my house, found the missing man's motorcycle. It had been carried up a 50 foot embankment and dumped over the other side. It wasn't driven there, it had been placed there. No arrests have been made.

Pretty darn spooky.

On the positive, this is probably the only hog barn in Canada making money right now. I always knew those cash croppers understood finance.

They busted a bunch of guys on the same kind of deal up here a few years back. Hog barn full of pot and caught them because of the power bill.
