Shipping those "glow in the dark cattle"

The HQ is 16 miles Southeast of Yoder, that pasture is 4 miles west of the postoffice which is all there is at Yoder. I guess there is a garage, and a fella runs a custome meat shop. What place are you looking at? The Bailey place recently sold to a Longhorn producer---You? The Claussen place is also up for sale--Just curious.

WOW that is a small town
It is the Baily place. Are you familiar with it?? There are still some details to be worked out but it is looking really good. The house comes with 120 acres but they do have some land that belongs to the kids that is for sale also.
How is the feed in the winter? We feed hay and grain year round here so I don't know how to feed with grass
I have heard cake and range cubes mentioned here but to be honest I have no idea what that is. It's just not something we have around here.
We are in the desert here so it is going to be a real change for us and the cows!! A good change though, we are just soooo tired of fighting this dry ole desert.
Thank You again for the information!! It is so welcome.
Have a Great day

Sorry, I did not notice your reply until tonight. Bailys are good friends, and we trade some labor on occasion. You may be getting from the fry pan into the fire on the desert part of your question. You will need to keep a hays stack handy at least part of the year on that small an acreage. To cake and grass you ought to have about 40 acres / pair. Cake is a range cube 2-3 inches by 3/4 inch that is fed on the ground where ever the cattle are. It is a protien pellet that actually feeds the bacteria in the rumen so that the animal better utilizes the roughage she consumes. Our locally grown hay is sweet stalk that is high in energy, but not too high protien, so a protien supplement like cake is in order for lactating cattle until the grass greens up. The home and cattle facilities on that place are great. Hate to lose the Baileys as neighbors, but sounds like we'll be gaining new good neighbors.
