Great catch, Maple Row.
I like Country Music but it depends on who is singing it. I don't care for the new country music. Give me some
Alan Jackson, George Strait, Vince Gill.
If I veer off a little bit, I really like some of Collin Rayes songs; some of the Mavericks. Have you heard of
Wylie and the Wild West Show? He is a hoot and can really sing AND yodel. He made his money yodeling for YAHOO.
Oh and Lacy J. Dalton. She has an old CD called "Last Wild Place." She created the album "The Last Wild Place" when she faced issues with her recording company in Nashville, which prevented her from recording the songs she wanted. This album was made in her own recording studio and reflects her desire to express her artistic vision independently. 2 songs stood out to me--
Little Boy Blue and She Could Run. But they are all good, just different.

She made this song for her son because she was gone from home so much.

On the topic of how country and western differ, I submit artist like Marty Robbins as being a good example of western.

Since it is Sunday morning, I thought this one was best for starters.



Another good one, all western, no country to it.



Western was fading and country was taking over about the time Ed Bruce sang this one.

This is about the last of real country. The stuff they call new isn't country in my opinion.



Dwight was pushing the boundaries, but still maintained a country sound and feeling. Steel guitar and fiddle along with his voice, saved his bacon from my distain for new so called country. For me it is Guitars, Pickup Trucks, and Western Cowboy music.



Another good example of real down home country with no western to it. No rock, no rap, no crap.

Cord Lund is Western Swing which came before Western, but after Western Square Dance music. I like a lot of young artist that still honor the old styles. It isn't about a singers age, but what they sing about and how they structure the rhythm.

It is much like Cowboy Poetry. Their are some young authentic Cowboy Poets at todays Poetry Gatherings, but also those that have lost the meter and lack in authentic content. Their poetry may be really good, but it isn't Cowboy, Ranch, or what I call Chuckwagon.

How could I have forgotten Marty Robbins?? Shame on me.
We have a Polish man at church that can really sing. He can do The Master's Call as good as Marty Robbins.
(IMO) and that's saying a LOT.
Thanks for the songs and thanks for reminding me of Marty Robbins, MC.
