Ivomec and the flyswatters provided by mother nature.

So your sayin......we should breed for longer more bigger swatters on the tails?

That so sounded like a Soapweed answer you gave hehe.

I've noticed the flies seem to be worse this year here too.

I think if I remember right-- in some of the Kit Pharo material I've read- he and others are breeding for more fly/pest resistant cattle as part of their low input program.....

I was going to beat Silver and say tail flyswatters-- but after several nasty weather calving periods I have a few that not only have no ears to flick-but no tails to switch--so kind of felt quilty with that answer...

I had the same thoughts regarding the short tails, but I got past the conscience thing pretty easy :P

I would'nt put much faith in what Kit Pharo say's.What does he do evaluate one day. Two days later that very animal may be covered and another will have very few. He is quite possibly the cattle industries master bullshiter. He's carved out a niche with blind followers about like R-Calf a few years ago.

I do what Texan said. Generic ivermectin or a fly pour-on at branding time. Again at fall shot time. Get 2-4 weeks of good fly control or at least knock the numbers down.

We put generic ivermectin on neighbor's cows and calves yesterday but the flies aren't really out yet. Cows kinda lousy though after the long winter.

I've used the ivermec pour on too and then change it out for another brand every now and then. The larvae control in minerals is good if your neighbors use it too, otherwise it's useless. Those flys can travel!
