Some of you hill-folk who live up around there might find these pics boring, but for me, a Flatlander, I find it completely amazing. The climate, the landscape, the vegetation...everything is sooo different from what it's like back at home 500 miles north of where these pics were took.

I'd love to live there someday. :)

A few years ago when I was attending meetings in Canada regularly-- the Mounties had us bring up Coors....
 
Truley beautiful country...I've been to Canada when I was a young pup, but can't even remember where now...I'd really like to see it again, but this is probably my extent of a trip...so thanks I enjoyed the trip through you..
 
I used to live within a half hour of Cochrane.
The statue is the 'Men of Vision' statue created by Doug Richards.
The brand bricks were made for folks that were kind enough to donate X amount of $$ to the Cochrane Ranch Museum to help keep it alive and now its the town office :roll:
They also had the "Hooves of History" cattle drive several years ago to help build that huge log museum (now town offices).
I loved living in that area, but unfortunately the hustle and bustle of Calgary and the ever growing Cochrane itself took away the 'western' feel of the area that use to be. Its too citified now.
Last year and maybe even still... Cochrane was (is) the fastest growing town in North America. :roll:
You'd also have to be a millionaire to live there now.

Isn't it the Canyon Rose restaurant in the hotel anymore? :?
The Canyon Rose was my favorite restaurant in Cochrane
 
That's a hay mower not a cutter-a cutter is a light sleigh but I'll forgives ya. We have a couple of those here back in the day when kids could play I mowed a million acres sitting on them.
 
We saw the Bow River in the Fall once. What a beautiful sight backed by golden trees (?linden? maybe.) They looked similar to birch. The combination of evergreens plus those autumn trees and the Bow was so pretty I tried to paint it on location and still remember having a peaceful day daubing away.

I tried to take as many pics as possible without looking at the line of houses surrounding that area, but it proved difficult, and disappointing. Sure spoils the landscape, that's for sure.

But it was still neat to see some different country, and somehow they've been keeping these little sancturaries away from being ripped up by housing developers. You can't beat Mother Nature when it comes to building hills and rock formations like I seen there.

Oh, and thanks for the corrections, btw. :-)
 
I've roared past the Cochrane Ranch many times but never stopped. Too bad they didn't keep it going, but the focus was all on the Bar U.
